I was replacing a broken handle on the drivers side rear door. Everything came out easy enough. I didn't pay attention to how far up the rod was. Now I can't seem to figure out the sweet spot. When I think I have it, then the door handle just pulls out without pulling up the rod. Am I missing something?

I'm betting exterior.
If you haven't already, 1A has a great video on it.
That cheesy clip that connects to the rod is still gripping tightly, right? I just love those cute little things.

I watched that once, I will have to rewatch it. the clip wraps around the rod easily enough. Another video I watched said to push up on the rod to give some tension. My problem is when I do that the door handle just pulls in and out without opening the door.

If you had gone with chrome handles like you were saying in your other thread this wouldn't be a problem :Big Laugh:

Probably, but the more I looked at Tahoes and Suburbans with all that chrome, the more I appreciated the color matched handles.

The rod on my '04 door latch is similar; in order to take up the slack I had to pull down on the rod and push up slightly on the yellow hinge catch to make it tight.

So, after a lot jacking around, Not only was the yellow clip was messed up, but the actuator itself was FUBAR'd. The lever that the yellow clip is attached to was very tight and not moving. After a quick overnight order of a replacement $21 actuator from Amazon, everything now works as it should. I almost gave up a couple of times and was going to throw in the towel. Let's just hop this actuator don't give me problems. $21 vs $108 from dealer.
