Look into Fi car audio. Subs are amazing and take repetitive abuse and the sound quality is great. For amps I like Kenwood but I know MTX and Clarion make some pretty good stuff.

Look into brands such as Fi, DC, Orion, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate...avoid companies such as Pyramid, Pyle, Crunch, anything on ebay...anything that is to good to be true

vintage a/d/s, vintage ppi, vintage sansui, vintage Xtant, vintage PG (titanium or tantrum are good) PG Xenon are about the only amps I can recommend.

JL is ok, but rips in the / line is a current hog and unneeded, and they are about 100-150% overpriced.

the OLD Total line (by JL) was also very clean and very cost effective, far better than JL's actual amps!

For subs, well that depends as much on enclosure ft3 available, music type, power, and enclosure type as brand.

Instead of telling you what to buy Im going to tell you what not to buy. For an amp that says its 1000w the price shouldn't be $75!! Like LOUDHOE said if its too good to be true don't buy it. I like to look at stuff on crutchfield then when I figure out my setup I go and buy it somewhere else.

I've always gone rockford fosgate subs. Would recomend kicker also. Amp wise alpine is amazing and rockford fosgate's amps are way under rated so they can be used in competion's.

Asking this question is like asking someone what the perfect girl is - you're gonna get 100's of different answers, and you won't agree with half of them.

In my GC, I'm running JL amps and a JL sub. In the Tahoe I'm running MTX Sub with an Orion Cobalt amp. Truth is if you're just looking for low end fill and not planning on entering competitions, buy what you can afford. As long as it's a name brand, you'll be fine.

Eagle bring up a very valid point though - depends on how big a box you want too.

+1 we need to know what to listen to, it all depends on what and how much you need. I absolutely love my kicker solo classics for rock, metal, hip hop, pretty much everything sounds good in a sealed box with quality speakers.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with mainstream, if so we wouldn't be buying GM. While smaller operations may make decent stuff, I have seen over my years, most don't have the R&D staff, or logivity as some of the mainstream. Many smaller operations come in like a bandit for a year or so, and go under. Decent ones survive...

There is nothing wrong with mainstream.

true, usually mainstream companies pioneer what smaller ones buy off the shelf later.
Most smaller operations just pull baskets, spiders, amp boards off the shelf, change a thing or two and slap a label on it.
