my yukon is a 02 5.3 4x4 has 144k, running 265/70/17. I do 100% street driving ac is on front and rear 80% of the time, I drive it like a grandma use cruise when i can etc. Every fluid has been changed but the rear diff, fuel filter has 2k on it, i have a spectre intake no change in mileage since i got it. Tires are set at 35 psi brakes and suspension are great. TB, MAF, and intake mani were all cleaned doesn't leak or smoke or burn anything and runs absolutely amazing. And gets consistently 12.2-12.8 mpg every single tank... Does this sound right or should i keep lookin for possible problems?i know its not good on gas i'm not a fool but i thought 14-15 wouldn't be unobtainable...and as a side note ive run the truck hard a few tanks and mileage is not affected still gets 12

these trucks arent hybrids as you mentioned yourself. i get 12 city and about 14 or 15 highway with the ac off. ac on is right around what you're getting but i have a 6.0. i wouldnt think theres anything wrong with yours but i do suggest you get a blackbear tuneup. you'll get about a mile or 2 per gallon extra

That's pretty much what I figured I wasn't expecting great things in the MPG aspect of the car but I just thought I'd see because most MPG posts I see are highway not a lot of mention of city driving

Hassoun,

I have to disagree with you on this. These aren't Hybrids but 12-12.8 seems really bad MPG to me. If you search in this section you will find a thread about MPG's and I wld say 90% if not more of us are getting 14-15 MPG on a regular basis. I have an 01 Yuk SLT 4x4 with 265/75/16 and avg around 14-14.75. A BB tune should get me over 15-16 on a regular basis. Run a can of seafoam in a tank of gas and try and plan a BB tune soon. That's just seems to low to me for MPG. Just my .02 cents.

I get around 12.5-14MPG Because of my Tahoe being AWD and my heavy ass 23s Rims

My 02 Yukon 4x4 with 20's gets around 14-15. My best highway mileage was 19-20mpg last summer. That was on my trip to Alabama. 75-80 mph cruising. Since then its right around 14-15..

as anothny said. AWD uses more gas. mine is AWD and 6.0 so imagine. haha. 12-13 city and 15-16 on highway. im not saying its always like that but thats the average. when im going down hill on interstate 95 i actually get 99 miles to the gallon!!! haha

I think the OP's biggest issue is that he is mostly city driving. Seems like like 01 4X4 gets really bad mileage when I do mostly city. I wont even get 300 miles out of a tank. Seems like most of the higher numbers here do more mixed driving then the op does.

Man, i'm getting under 10 mpg at the moment. only 250 miles a tank. im all city driving as well in my 01 kon 2wd. Just put in a new fuel filter, spectre CAI and changed plugs and wires(MSD Ignition) this weekend, hoping for any gain. How am I so far off from u guys? I would be stoked for 12.5 MPG!!

City/Street driving makes a big difference. Stop and go, stop and go. City driving, my mileage is bad.. Probably like 10-12 mpg.

Quit fooling yourself guys.
We all know that when we bought these trucks that they're "GAS GUZZLER". No matter how you tune it..changes this and that, these truck will suck you dry.
Whining and bitching ain't gonna solve jack, unless you trade it in for some cheap 2 door Hyundai.

The 02 Yukon was originally rated at 14 mpg city, but when they changed the way the mileage is figured it went to 12 mpg city. I would say you're doing about right. Yes it does suck, but I bought mine for comfort and use, not mileage.
Here is a link to fid the gov. mileage ratings.

We have 02 yukon 5.3 4x4 with 125k miles. Around town, get 14-15, highway AND city driving. In city only, and running ac, yes, 12 is about it. I'm surprised about you getting 12 if you crank it, since mine drops to around to 10-11 if I'm rushing around alot in the middle of the duty day. Have stock tires, stock everything except K&N. K&N didn't help mileage, but does help perceived acceleration.
