diy led reverse lights

So im bored and still dont have a job and I keep coming up with random deas.
so I bought about 20 of these eagle eye led bolts as a package deal. Ive done a few projects with them and this is one of them.

Took a 3156/3157 plug and gutted it out and clipped the wires.

The inside is just clipped in and easy to remove. Once out all thats left is a shell.

Now theres one small rib that will have to be ground down and honed out but other than that just drill a 3/8 hole for the bolt and the led fits in perfectly.

Made a rubber washer out of a gasket I had. Keep the moisture out of the tail light housing


And boom there ya go, brightest led you can fit in a tail light housing.

The plugs might have to be slightly modified to fit in the opening to the housing. The plugs usually have 3 clips that hold it in and a shaving would be needed..easy stuff.
just clip your reverse lights and splice in these bad boys.

Close up. These are more of a 5000k white.

Would be much brighter in a crystal clear aftermarket lens but like stated before I dont have a job right now, so until then im rocking stockers lol

I got the idea from my last truck except I bolted them into my licence plate. Another idea for you guys.

Btw led lights were about $2 a piece. Electrical connectors I already had and same with the 3157 plugs.
not a bad price for a cool mod.
These would look cooler and brighter in aftermarket tails.

Yep easy two wire splice. One ground one power. Easy as it gets

I actually bought 10 for $12. I have a couple pair left over for something else. Thinking i might use a pair for under the hood

If you do under the hood, interested in seeing that. Been thinking about LED strips fro lighting.

Thanks haha. It's all pretty simple tho. I'm not messing with volt changes and diodes or anything. Just plug and play stuff.
I was thinking of strips too.....but everybody does strips, gotta be different lol. Plus these are way brighter in lumens than any strip on the market. And they bolt on instead of using tape like strips which sounds better to me especially when hanging over a hot engine with moving parts

Even so the little changes are really cool.

Be very interested to what you do under the hood. That could be really neat to see with those round LEDs and super bright.

Not keen on the tape either but want bright light under there.

Mine never came with an underhood light and I found at the junkyard but said no because it would not give the output I desired.

I wonder if you could somehow attach them to the various cut out portions of the hood supports and fish the wire down thru them or at least behind the heat pad?

Maybe on the firewall facing forward or on the fenders facing in? Just spitballing for ideas to get light in and around those dark areas to work and/or clean?

Might be too much but worth contemplating for a custom install.

Yea I'll figure something out for under the hood. I like how small they are yet incredibly bright. I haven't looked where to put them under the hood. I'm still thinking of what I wanna do with the old heat pad. Keep it or get something different. I'll be sure to do a write up either way. @Fosscore
