My Local Body shop sells a three step paint system that they fill with quality actual body shop quality paints and clears..It is a pressurized system just like rattle cans except they fill them right in the store with mixed paints and with a little time it can come out looking great for under a $100..My body guy was messing around with his daily driver and wanted to try the stuff out when it first came available , he went through the steps like he was going to paint it in the booth but then used the rattle can primer, rattle can base coat and the rattle can clear from the body shop and it looked great , looked like he used the devilbiss (paint gun) on it..I wouldn't recommend painting a whole car this way but i can't see why you couldn't paint one panel at a time and get great results...
From where you are now i would say it's better than paint flaking off but looks like it could use another layer of paint.When that is dry hit it with some 1500 wet sand , then clear coat it, buff the clear or wet sand and buff the clear , you might be able to get it real nice....
I have seen good results from lesser materials before but it just comes down to prep work....
It does look like the color matches pretty well though....
