You need to do a re-learn. Dealership or local station that knows what they are doing.
I resolved a very similar issue at the beginning of the summer. My battery drained down to the point where the power assist stopped working so it was like driving with manual steering. The steering system is all electrical and I got the "Service Power Assist" error on my screen even after replacing battery - all my cables are good. The dash alert never went away even after another battery disconnect and reconnect.
My shop did a relearn on the truck and eliminated the error on screen. They didn't charge me anything cause I've spent a good deal of money they so it wasn't a big deal to them.
