Just an update. Went to pick some gloss black rustoleum and a black sharpie. If the scratches are very fine and hair-like a sharpie may be ok but I think the rustoleum is the better approach as it has a little more thickness to it. A little dark in the garage but shouldn’t be noticeable from 5-10’ away. I sprayed a bit of rustoleum into some tinfoil (made a bowl) and just dabbed a small art/paint brush.

This is just one coat in the pics below. Truck included for show and tell haha. I’ll let it dry and see if I bother adding another. Wasn’t going for anything close to perfection. Just didn’t want to make a complete mess while hiding the white scratches and deeper scuffs.

Good news is my 22’s are going back on the Yukon this Friday (no more salt/snow fingers crossed). I have the stock 20” rims for my winter tire set and with the Pearl beige… looks like a bit of a grandpa mobile. The gloss blacks change the whole look.

Honestly…. I wondered that because I couldn’t recall any tire scuffing on the actual rubber due to curbing (ie when trying to park). Having said that, we got the Yukon end of April and I only noticed the scuff just before I took the wheels off for the winter in November. I’m certain I would have noticed it over 6 months… at least I think I’m certain haha.

2nd coat from the pics above. Probably going to leave it alone now. Sometimes the more you tinker, the worse it gets lol.

Standing back a few feet, you can barely see the blotch and the black blends in decent. Of course if you zoom in and shine light on it, won’t look great.

So for anyone with some minor scuffs, this is a decent way to go. Small cost for a can of rustoleum and a couple of small brushes.

FWIW, I got a touch up kit off Amazon for my paint. It came with tiny brushes, a toothpick and a plastic stick with a tiny ball on top. It’s the first time I’d seen a kit with this and it really helped build the paint layers back up. Their instructions say not every scratch is the same so you get different applicators. Worked great. I now use toothpicks for filling scratch before using the tiny brushes

I’m thinking of power coating my stock 22” wheel. Never done it before, but what’s the average cost to do so?

If they’re chrome they’re a bit more but most places around here charge about $100 wheel.

It really depends on the prep…

I’m in Ohio and I’ve had 22” rims powder coated for $400. That guy literally just powder coated over the rims as they were dropped off to him.

Then I’ve got another guy who I’ve used to powder coated my Wilwoods which are a ton more labor in taping off/prep than rims. I haven’t used him for rims yet but he’s quoted me $650 for a set of 22” rims. But he will strip them down to bare metal prior to powder coating them. Then for an extra $25/rim we will add a gloss clear powder coat.

I haven’t done this before. My wheels are the factory gloss black but I do run the factory 20” wheels as my winter tires… hence the “grandpa look” in the winter.

All I did was apply a little rust oleum to my black wheels to hide the scuff led part and now that the black wheels have been on a few days… I don’t even notice the blotch from the rustoleum.
