I've found some deals on a HD 2500 hood for replacement of OEM hood.

I don't have a clue however what the cost would be for the paint job (color match) of the new hood. Sorry if this has been asked before, i could find much info searching around. Would I be correct in assuming it shouldn't be more than $500, or am I up in the night?

Wet sand yourself and save some $. Assuming it doesn't need any repairs $250 should be the top end

I would consider $150 to be a very good price. However, I'd expect most to do it in the $300 or less range. If you're spending $500 just for the paint job you're probably paying too much unless it's some kind of wicked custom paint job.

EDIT: looks like sweet beat me to it with fewer words :D

are you paying to have it modified to fit the yukon headlights or are you going to be able to do that yourself and just have it painted by a shop? That will add significantly to the price if you are having to have a shop cut and fold the edges....

:Boo: i thought i read somewhere that it'll fit the yukon w/o any modifications.. Guess just for the Hoes? Oh well, thanks for clarifying that. Saved me a surprise down the road. Wetsanding it myself and painting it I pretty sure I can do, I most likely would need to have a shop cut and fold it to match. That sort of things seems best left to the professionals..

But to venture...how hard is it to cut and fold the edges myself? And to do it RIGHT? :)

If it's your first time I wouldn't....it's not terribly difficult to do the lines and cut metal with a wheel but if you mess it up it becomes exponentially difficult. Then there's the body work which takes some experience also.

Me? I'd have a cheapo shop do it and tell them you'll hire them if they let you work alongside to work and learn. Small, cheaper shops (or a one man shop) will usually be cool with it...they kinda want to tell people what they know sometimes.

anyway just my 02

make sure its a 2001-2002 CHEVY HD hood too.

99-2000 might be the same but i always tell people 01-02 to be safe.

I've found several last week for just over $200+. I believe they are the thicker steel too, OEM.

What about a whole '06 2500hd front clip? Will that fit on a Yukon like it fits a tahoe where all you have to modify is the frame horns to make it bolt up?

Mine was a Yukon before I did the Silvy conversion.

Yes it bolts up with the exception of the frame horns. You probably want the 06 1500 clip. The 2500 HD clip has a bigger top bumper cap and the bumper mounts lower.

I'm glad I read this thread... I was thinking about eventually doing the HD hood conversion eventually, but it sounds like more trouble then it's worth to me.
