Wondering if a person could put a set of coil over shocks up front and get rid of the torsion bars that are stock on our front suspension? I know they make some lift kits that eliminate the torsion bars by putting in coil overs. Just wondering if it is an option with out having to put in the lift kit. my tahoe is a 4x4 so the coil over needs to clear the front cv axle. Looking to use this upgrade, in order to get rid of my sagging driver side torsion bar. ( i put ford keys in, but my driver side is maxed out, while the passenger is barely turned at all to get the truck level all the way around).

If coil overs are an option, anyone know what companies make good ones and what kind of spring options one would need for our trucks?

thanks for the help

you would have to fab up a custom shock mounts. i wanted to do this but to lower my tahoe i just dont trust my welder(110v 90amp) enough. qa1 makes coilover shocks and they sell a variety of springs to tune your set up. plus if you dont like it you can send it back and exchange if you buy through summit. com.

How long are the factory shocks? That would give a starting point for the length of the coil over. How much spring would one need for the front end?

the fronts are like 16'' extended? i cant remember. but qa1 has coilovers with rating of up to 1600lb each. on length it will depend on how high of a lift. i say just eave it stock and buy a bolt on kit instead of cutting and welding.
