The other day the CD in the factory supplied Bose unit stopped working with the message "disc not read". Everything else works including rear camera, radio, GPS' etc in the module. I don't think the DVD works either for the back seat video, but I have never used it. But I'm sure it also can not read the disc.
So I took it locally and they took it out and determined that the mechanics of moving the discs in and out and internally needs to be replaced. They got a quote from a repair facility they use in another state of $750-- to repair this. Sounds unreasonable to me!
Anyone have any experience with this kind of a repair? I'm a record collector and go back all the way to Edison Diamond discs, and can find repair people for reel to reel decks, 8 tracks, tube type amps etc. So there must be people out there who specialize in repairing these "high tech" auto audio systems that are complicated by design.
Local car audio dealer repair people said they could replace the system with an aftermarket unit for about that same price, but based on what I have read on this site, that''s probably not a wise move. LOTS of issues apparently. At my age, the factory Bose system sounds fine!
Vehicle has about 125,000 miles and no other problems. We really like it. Would appreciate your thoughts on possible solutions for this repair, or used replacement or other ideas. Thanks.
