As some have said my issue with the power steps is not so much the Carbyte but the aftermarket Amp Research steps. It is a shame as both work well but they don’t play well together. AMP Research steps are awesome and very fast to deploy and they might be slightly wider with better construction than the OEM power assist steps.
The steps work perfectly with the manual switch on the dash but they don’t respond automatically when the doors open/close with Carbyte plugged in. So I am back to pushing a button!
It is the door position sensor that needs the original OBD plug to work and the guys at Carbyte are working on finding a solution, maybe there’s some interface adapter that can recognize the door position to activate the steps with the Carbyte in place.
They told me they would refund me but for the cheap price of $150 I will keep it even if they can’t resolve the door sensor issue. I love the auto stop disabled and full V8 mode during any speed.
The auto stop still works even in short trips and low speed driving - it seems to work even when driving below 40 mph. I have heard some say it doesn’t activate until 40 mph is reached but that hasn’t been my experience.
For the price Carbyte is a great option.

So I have been running the Carbyte for about 3 weeks and it works as advertised. Nothing seems to be adversely affected, no glitches and fuel economy is pretty much identical. For me the best stretch of road is a 12 mile section of A1A here in Florida. It’s probably the best road for maximum fuel efficiency as it’s smooth flat, very steady traffic with steady 50-55 mph speed and the speed limit is 50 mph. I get between 22-24 mpg on this stretch of road before and after installing Carbyte. So if it’s running full 8 cylinders then DFM is not noticeable fuel savings on this 12 mile stretch at 50 mph.
The auto stop is permanently disabled and it’s supposed to be full time V8 but I have no idea how to verify this. I’ve turned off the audio system and listened carefully and tried to be as open as I can to the vehicle input but haven’t noticed any difference there.
The app is adequate I guess but I haven’t used it for anything yet. My main concern was getting rid of auto stop and running V8 full time and this device is very easy and cheap option for that. Their customer service is available by email and they do get back to you within a day.
