checked my distributor today, been skipping alot, found gear almost worn completely away. Cam retard was at 12 degrees. Replaced distributor retard was at 38 degrees. Moved around til i got it to 2 degrees. once at 2 degrees the truck would barely idle and when i tried to idle it up it would pop and backfire. WTF?????????

You screwed something up. Take the dizzy out. Zero the engine to tdc on #1 one in firing position. and reinstall using the marks on dizzy body to ensure proper alignment when seated. If done properly and carefully you should be within 1 degree of a scanner zeroed engine with out using a scanner.
