Hey guys,

I am going to buy a 2002 Tahoe with 107,000 miles on it for $6,000 later today. I think I got a pretty good deal. Really clean...no rust and no rips in the leather with newer tires.
My question is...what is the very 1st thing I should do besides an oil and filter change for maintenance? And what can I put off for a couple of months?
Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it.

03 has the filter? I thought 02 was the last year. I'll have to check mine.

Having them add a drain plug, and temp sensor while they have the pan off isn't a bad idea either.

I would clean the throttle body and install a catch can.

Corvette servo and a transmission cooler would go a long way to prolong transmission life.

I can't believe your leather seats have no rips! Get a good leather conditioner. I like lexol. This will go a long way to maintain your leather.

I bought my 01 Tahoe with 100,606 miles and now it has 544,111 miles. In that time I have honestly never changed a single coolant hose, and they don't need it. I recently changed the plugs and wires for the second time as I was getting a misfire code. I changed them out when I bought it.

Trans I never touched until the 2-3 shift solenoid went out, at that time I did a fluid change and filter, but never did before. That was around 400k miles or so.

Ive never touched the rear differential (2x4). Just lots of U joints, brakes, front hubs.

I have had a K&N Filter since 150k miles or so. I clean it regularly as I drive this vehicle a lot for work. Cleaning out the throttle body will keep the vehicle from dying when you back it up and shift back to drive. Carbon buildup is a *****.

Ive never added any brake fluid, nor have I cycled all new fluid throughout the entire brake lines. I flushed the entire coolant system once when the radiator cracked. I have changed the thermostat a few times. You can always check the belt tensioners as when those go out on the road, they tend to incapacitate the vehicle.

Replace the belts if needed.

Just keep up on regular maintenance and the truck will last forever. My drivetrain will outlive the body of my truck. Unfortunately the driver's side has started to rot away. Oh well. ;)

Thanks so much guys...REALLY appreciate the help with this.
I have ordered my plugs and wire set, and will do an oil and filter change this weekend. I will definitely clean out the Throttle Body and the MAF as well. Does the TB have to come off, and should I avoid touching the butterfly valve?

Its best to remove the TB.

I have and never will worry about moving the butterfly.

While its off, use that berrymans B-12 in my link and a rag to clean as much oil out of your intake manifold as you can.

Nothing wrong with touching a butterfly valve. That's one of the main things you want to clean.
