You can bet that GM has people monitoring all GM forums to see what is being said about this engine catastrophe and GM name.
I’m guessing not. Too big and arrogant. It took the federal government to get them to address a problem that they’ve known about for years. Too bad they squandered so much good will. They will never get it back.

The engine build date code is on a paper sticker on the rear of the driver side cylinder head.

We are more worried about the engine build date, not the engine block casting/build date.

The engine build date is for the full assembly, not just the engine block. It is what helps with the bearing and crank problems the L87 is having.

The engine build date is a Julian date that preceded by a capital letter and usually the number 1.

Earlier in this thread I believe there are pictures of the paper sticker and where the Julian date is located.
What would a 3 in the place of the 1 mean? Mine is K3 followed by 23

strictly for reliability nothing!
However, my 2024 high country is the first vehicle I had that has 360 HD cameras, adaptive cruise control, heated and ventilated seats, air suspension and magnetic ride, heads up display plus 420 hp and quad exhaust pipes. It rides like a luxury land yacht and puts a smile on my face when I hit the pedal!

I have experienced the benefits of all this stuff and don’t think I could ever go back! LOL!

That’s how I feel when I drive our 02 Yukon. It feels like a technological marvel and full of creature comforts compared to my 78/84. I guess it’s all perspective. I’m scared to drive our 2024 as I’m afraid I’m going to scratch or nick something.

PS: I think you are referring to the quad exhaust putting a smile, that’s badass indeed… I think the 8.1L will put a good smile for a 0-60 pull. It’s all about the torque!

I'd bet against that.

Forums are a virtually dead form of social media. While I still like them (because I'm old apparently), forums don't get anywhere near the coverage of tiktok, X, YouTube, snapchat, etc.

And,,, all those other forms of social media already have some pretty good data mining software built into them, so GM doesn't need people to monitor anything , they just pay the respective platform and all the data is instantly available (like ever hear about GM and LexisNexis, where GM was straight up selling customers OnStar data to LexisNexis, then LexisNesis would then sell it to insurance companies).

Bottom line and point being made is that GM (and most larger corps) probably *do* have some form of PR department internally that does monitor social media, from YouTube to TikTok and the archaic forum.. , for reasons not necessarily related to this recall.

But, no, i don’t think they (GM) would be monitoring forums or other media any more than they probably normally would be. It’s not like they actually care what people say on the internet, because people are idiots. Reasons for monitoring probably would be more in line with demographic insights and/or product marketing.

Not the L87 but probably very similar build and testing video.

Starting around the 6 minute mark Leak Testing and Cold testing checking over 12,000 test points! They must have missed at least 1 with the L87?

I would open up the drivers door and look down near the sill plate almost at the driver side rear door edge and you will find the build Month and Year X/YEAR listed directly on the tag.

Again a July start of build year would be rather unusual, I am not saying it does not happen, usually the only time the new model years do not start in Sept is when there is either a new model being released or a Mid Model Refresh.

Only way to confirmed the engine build date is looking at the tag on the rear of the drivers side cylinder head from under the car, it is not easy to see and if you have an AT4 or off road package usually skid plates

Here is what I get when I scan the door sticker:

Mobil 1 FS 0W40 is Dexos R Rated according to this list, and is available at WalMart for around $25 in a 5 quart jug, and $7.99 in single quart bottles.

Thanks for the heads up. Picked up 3 jugs of the stuff and promptly changed my oil right away. Had just under 3k miles on the 0W-20 that was drained. Peace of mind until GM calls me for inspection on my L87.

I promise you that your not gonna get any kind of inspection. It better be making a noise or throwing a code. My dealership is NOT gonna tear engines down looking for problems.
