I test drove a 2021 High country today that had 5 miles on it total. I have never driven a Chevy truck before and I was really surprised the first time I went to stop how hard you have to press on the brakes to slow down. Could it be because the brakes need to bed it still or is it just something you have to get used to with Chevy trucks?

I experienced this same thing as well. It was almost scary in stop and go traffic. It does get better over time, but other vehicles do have better brakes.

That doesn't seem right. Mine is older and stops on a dime. Brakes may need to be bled.
Could need to be seated in if the 5 miles is accurate on the dash. They should have that done when come off assembly line, I would hope.
I just replaced my hydro-boost set up on my rig and the first couple of stops took some getting used to but now is fine.
IF you are coming from vacuum boost to hydro-boost, there can be a learning curve.

Thanks for the input! I plan on finding a diesel to test drive as well before ordering. I test drove a navigator about a year ago and didn’t recall the brakes being much different feeling than my wife’s current Mercedes GLE43. These high country brakes worked but had no initial bite to them. We are looking at ordering an RST.
I am never a fan of grabby brakes and like to get my own rhythm for the brake pedal feel. Not saying you are saying "grabby" but is best I can describe.
When I sold my 2002 LT and went to my 2005 Z71, I had to go from vacuum assist to hydro-boost assist and I had a short learning curve at first but then after about 30 to 45 minutes I was completely used to it and like the hydro-boost way better.
How long of a test drive did you go on? I would want to maybe try again and get out for about 30+ minutes on all kinds of roads.

I wasn’t aware it was hydro assist, thanks I’ll have to google that. Like I said the car only had 5 miles on it, we only took it on a short 4 mile test drive. It has a crazy strong burning smell coming from it as well that the salesman said was the exhaust coating burning off.
The salesman is exactly right about the exhaust/smell you experienced. It is likely that but I am not gonna say that it IS that.
Also, I am not saying the rig you drove is hydro-boost but only saying it may be hydro-boost and if you are coming from a vacuum assist vehicle, there is a difference and if never drove a hydro-boost brake assist, it can be a little different but in the long run is way better. If you drive a diesel model it will likely have the hydro-boost for sure. Pop the hood and look.
