Just noticed the other day that my 07yukon haz an ac delco battery ... I have had three ac delcos prior to this vehicle and they have all left me high and dry at the worst times so i do not trust them ... I have run optimas before in my jeeps and loved it and uve read about kinetic batteries being very good as well....but does anyone have any suggestions for a good battery that wont break the bank ... I am not running any stereo eqipment other than factory things just dont like AC DELCO batteries personally they always seem to fail on me and never give me any warning :-(

A lot of members here will recommend Yellowtop, though they are expensive. I love mine, my AC Delco always quit on me in the winter, which made me late for school. Got a Yellowtop and have never been worried about it starting ever since.

I would do a Google search on batteries and see what you come up with. But if you ever decide for a Yellowtop, you'll need model number D35.

I did alot of google searching and comparisons before i posted here ans the kinetics do seem nice but very pricey as are optimas but i have never had a kinetic and i did love my yellow top in my jeep just forgot to remove it when i sold the jeep so im looking to replace it but $ is more of a factor now then when the first yellowtop was purchased... I will try to get another if that is highly recommended but as i said money is a factor at the moment unfortunately thanks to student loans and crap :-/

Well, there are a few other reputable batteries, Optima is not the only choice but it IS highly praised here! Someone will have a different answer for you though, not everyone uses Optima batteries.

just buy any old battery from whatever chain store is convienent for you, and save the receipt for the pro-rated warranty.

90 percent of end users dont need the durability or deep discharge ability of the optima batteries. They wont make anything run better unless you have high loads already (a/v equipment, winch)....any other perceived differences are placebo (just like sea-foam).

a battery **should** last 3-5 years, and if it is not maintenance free you should check the water level and put distilled in a few times a year.

I'm not sure a yellow top would last 6-10 years so i really dont think they are worth 2x the price of a regular battery.

SW CT,
My Delco lasted 4 years, I got lucky and got a good one. Since I do not have any aftermarket electronics other than HID's and trailer brake controller I didn't feel the need for an Optima, I ended up with a Deka battery, cca's were about 150-175 more amps than stock. I'd also look into an Interstate I run them in my HD and they have been flawless. If you're looking for a dry/gel cell for your Jeep take a look at the Exide Spiral-Cell I run it in my Jeep, they are the same theory as the Optima's but about 1/2 the price.

Ever since optima moved manufacturing to china the quality has dropped way off. Reports all over the net with failed optimas.

Just another real quick thought if i were to get an optima or something different anyway that would have more cranking amps and cold cranking amps than the current battery would that push the altetnator too hard due to the larger battery and cause it to fail ... or is that somrthing i even need to worry about?

I don't think it would hurt the alternator. If this were to be a result, mine would have already done that and it has had absolutely no issues at all.

You don't need to worry about that.

speaking of which, i know if you remove the radio from the nnbs hoes, you need to have dealer or something to release the radio lock. Is the same needed when your battery goes dead or replaced?

Sometimes my battery reading shows at 14, and other times it read about 12.5. Is that normal. Its an 07 Yukon. My Chevy truck stays at 14 all the time. I hope I don't get stranded anytime soon!!

SW CT,
Yes it is normal for the gauge to fluctuate. GM updated their voltage regulators with the GMT900 platform and they actually show a more accurate voltage on the gauges now. The older truck would stay steady and only really drop if the battery was very very low.

Speaking of batteries - I noticed my "new" 07 yukon denali has an extra battery tray. Hmmm.... how much of a hassle is it to add an extra battery? (so the alternater will charge it like the primary) Think that might help out my new audio system.
