I heard that an apadter is needed for a center point system and there is a possibility that there could be engine noise. Did you experience this?
I am debating between the 2012 factory system and the ogm1 for my new 2012 Sierra Denali with Bose and center point. Any advice on this?
Madadd might be of help with the center point question. Looks like he had to deal with that.
As for OGM1 vs OEM look at the comparison on adcmobile.com.
Sorry I missed this I have been out of town for a bit.
Yes I have engine noise and I have yet to track it down. I actually removed the Advent unit and it was still there without any Headunit installed. My theory is that it is coming from the BOSE amp. My problem is the engine noise is faint and intermittent which makes it even harder to track down. It does not go up with the volume so the only time I actually hear it is when talking on the phone or when using the iphone for netflix, slingbox or any other video source or when the stereo is off completely.
The Bose centerpoint system is a mess I have no idea what GM was thinking on it. A center channel is great for home entertainment but in a car where you are mostly listening to music stereo is the desired effect. To add to the mess Gm in there infinite wisdom decided to build the chimes (blinkers, seat-belt alert, etc..) into the Bose amp instead of into the headunit like the rest of the tahoe, yukon lineup. Then to add insult to injury the entire system is digital meaning the simple analog amp wire on most aftermarket head units will not power on the factory Bose amp, a digital signal needs to be sent.
This is where it gets fun! Since the Advent and basically any other head unit known to man does not send a digital signal to turn on an amp we have to pick up a PAC audio OS-4 and splice into the OBD connector, however we arn't using the rest of the unit only some power and ground wires and the wire that sends the digital signal to start the amp.
I have spoken with another member of this forum who had a centerpoint system ran the Advent unit and had a high pitched sound in the background but no engine noise. His theory and mine as well is that the noises are from the factory Bose amp and it's interface with the OS-4 and the headunit. My theory is that re-grounding the factory Bose amp will eliminate the background noise. Should that not work my other option is to completely remove the factory Bose amp and speakers. That of course would present it's own set of problems since the chimes are built into the amp and the Bose centerpoint system actually sounds good with the
9 band EQ of the Advent.
To summarize love the Advent unit it is total plug and play until you run into the greatness that is the Bose Centerpoint system. At that point you are taking any aftermarket system you install at your own risk. To me it has been worth any issues I have had but once I find a wiring diagram for the center console and my Bose amp I will be doing some further experimenting.
