Im not sure how long this problem has been going on, but I noticed the other day that when I get on the throttle, the AC blower motor would sound like it was blowing slower. Yesterday I did some experimenting on the freeway and figured out it is an RPM issue. Anything over 3500 rpms and the truck voltage drops from 14 to 12. I put an overdrive pulley on it about a month ago and was wondering if anyone had any problems with it ruining their alternator.

After figuring it out, I went to Autozone and had them check the alt on the truck. The tester showed it was fine. Then I asked him to run the check while I held it at 3900 rpms and the tester showed bad voltage regulator.

So I pulled the 100 amp alt and installed the 140 amp I had bought a while ago and put the small overdrive pulley on it, but I dont want this one to get messed up too. I hope it was just a coincidence .

I would say coincidence on the Reg failure... But who knows..

Did you notice any diff with the pulleys? Im going through the standard bolt on mod list atm, and they likely the next mod...

For at least 4 months of the year, you need AC while driving at night here (90 at midnight). If you have it on high, headlights on, in drive, sitting at a light, your voltage will be down to 12.0. With the small pulley, it stays at 14.

I can imagine it would be way worse with efans. Had to do it on my 93 with efans or the voltage would be at 10 volts at idle in gear.
