So, here's my current problem. When I bought our 2006 Escalade years ago (maybe 5 years ago) someone had already installed an aftermarket remote start/alarm system. The seller gave me the two aftermarket, Titan brand, remotes which were in perfect working order, and they've worked great all this time. Recently however, one of them stopped working completely and the other is getting sorta sketchy.

I've tried all the typical fixes; replacing the batteries, cleaning the boards and contact points, etc but it's made no difference. This system was installed in 2007 and I guess these remotes are just at the end of their life.

Anyway, I can't keep operating like this, soon enough the one semi-functional remote will die and we'll be screwed.

I tired contacting the manufacture (TITAN) of the remote start system, and got in touch with them, but they have zero interest in supporting a 12 year old product in any way....nice.

So what do I do?

I am pretty good mechanically, but I've never dealt with a remote start system before so the whole thing makes me pretty nervous. I believe I can see the module tucked up under the dash near the driver's left knee. There's also a receiver up on the windshield with a blinky light.

If I uninstall the aftermarket system would it be easy to get everything back to 'stock'? That way I could, in theory, get a couple factory remotes and program them. I'd lose remote start functionality in that case though.

Or am I better off replacing the aftermarket stuff with a new remote start system?

Trying to balance the complexity of work with cost, and I wouldn't mind having the remote start functionality retained, we do use it, especially with a 1-year old kid who doesn't like the cold!

Probably better to have the old one replaced with new. The technology is much better today concerning modules, remotes etc. You won't be sorry if you replace, but you will be sorry if you don't--eventually. Just my opinion tho.

If you're not gonna dive into it yourself, leaving it alone and bringing it to in installer to be replaced/upgraded might work in your favor. Most, if not all of the wiring has been dug out and tapped for the old one to work, so that makes it a little easier for the new one to be installed.

Why not look on Ebay or Amazon for replacement fobs, I'm sure you'll find some there and just program it.

Tried that, extensively, no dice. Apparently this brand was only sold in Alberta Canada, so it's not very popular.

Leaning towards bringing it somewhere to have a new one installed. Sounds like my buddy has a trustworthy auto electronics guy...

No, mine looks like this one but it's all black.

If it was cheap enough I'd risk it and buy this one to try it, but the guy wants $60 USD for just a remote that's missing the antenna cover. By the time I do exchange, duty & shipping it'll be $100 to see if it works with mine or not. At that price I'd rather just put the funds towards a new system.
