Aftermarket "Authoritative" Horns -- What Experience/Recommendations Do You Have?

Y'all,

I'd like to install a set of more "authoritative" horns, but not to "train horn" level. I'm aware of this previous thread, and while I have the mentioned Hellas on my '88 BMW 535i and like them for that application, IMO their sound doesn't suit trucks.

My criteria:

* "Truck" sounding.

* Notably louder than stock, but not "train horn" level.

* Electric is preferable.

So, what are your experiences and suggestions?

I thought the same thing about a more stout horn….. Just Google “loud truck horns”……. There are a few choices you will find.
( Google “ the horn used in the movie " The Car” ). That was a classic truck horn you can buy today...

Yeah, I'd done plenty of Googling and YouTubing, but it's kind of difficult to get a good idea when so many don't have good audio recording.

I'll check out the horn from "The Car" -- thanks! EDIT: That ain't gonna happen. They're air horns, they're $375 each, and you need two:

It’s possible….. but hard to tell how much of the sound is an effect.

No worries! This forum does seem to have more hijack-y/non-relevant comments than others, but if I had wanted to preclude that in this discussion, I would have caveatted my query like this other one I did!

my preference whenever I get around to it is a ppv "air horn" which is really a 100w speaker, not a actual air horn.
the whelen one (stand alone-air horn/pa.) does not create the same sound a ppv control module does, using a ppv siren sound for civilian use is of course illegal but I plan on modifying the one I have to just activate the air horn with a button wired and soldered to the control board.
the whelen one you see online is supposed to have 3 different settings I could not find the "low" sound in any video's but the stock sound is garbage, comparatively.
in this video when he hits "air horn" that is what the one I have sounds like. it is a older controller but makes the same sounds
sometime you can find them on ebay but they tend to take them off unless they are noted as "disabled" which is usually terms for they pulled the fuse.

However the effect is generated, is not as critically important as when I hit the button, I want everyone within 30ft to notice even if they are deaf.
So I suppose I could just have a very loud recording & playback of that effect, I guess?

Probably not what you want, but there are air horns designed for motorcycles.

I had a 'Mini Beast'; very compact. It was pitched higher than I wanted, but it got attention.

This is the unit i got. I pulled the circuit board and switches out of the casing and mounted them above the OH console above the headliner. I set the selector knob to AUX. The red button is for the horn only.

the federal signal ms3000 or ms4000 has the air horn/horn, then you just need the 30lb 100w speaker lol
3 or 4 have sold on ebay recently, none listed current
easy hook up power/ground/speaker

the video really doesn't do it justice this is loud as f....
