Hey guys I am in the process of replacing the water pump and thermostat. My question is there any particular brand the has a better performance over the other? Also should I replace the mounting bolts?

Changing out the water pumps on our trucks is actually pretty easy so if you wanted to try a reman'd pump due to the price difference then go for it! If the price is pretty close to a new one, then get new all the time! Get a thermostat while you are there and I'd be content on using the bolts that you already have unless you know they are already screwed up!

I replaced my pump, stat, and hoses on my '91 c1500 a few months ago.
Super easy. I bought NAPA stuff because the water turbine is built like OEM.
Avoid Autozone Duralast JUNK.
If you don't believe me, look up a water pump for a 1990 ISUZU PUP. Compare the impellers. WORLD of a difference. The NAPA one looks like the OEM I pulled off my old truck. The Duralast, let's just say I told them to get me a new gasket for my old one.

I found a kit that had the pump, thermostat, and lower hose for $100 shipped. I'll be ordering it by this weekend.

from personal experience , I had bad luck with re-manufacturer ones , 8 months and had to replace it again .

yeah i just replaced mine not to long ago
as far as thermostats go stick to what ever was in there originally hell there wasnt a thing wrong with the one i had in there already i used the orginal one just make sure to replace the o rings

Original ac delco or Napa brand
just found that I have to do the same thing today. mechanic quoted $700 but that is way to rich for my budget and would take me to long to scrape together, so I have decided to replace it myself. napa is closed so I have to wait to go in the morning. I have all the tools except for the fan clutch wrench. What would be the easiest way for me to get that thing off?

When I did my electric fan swap. I put a big clamp on the main pulley so it couldn't turn, then put a big wrench on the fan bolt and took it off that way.

When I did e-fans in my TBSS, I left the belt on and put a wrench on the nut. I hit the wrench with a hammer a few times and it came loose.

I think I used the same method...works just fine. $100 for everything is a pretty good deal!

I found it on amazon. It was a suggestion on what other customers who viewed the product bought.
