Maybe it's just me, but I've always thought that even stock Tahoes and Yuks have pretty flexible suspension?

Saw the Alpine loop video too... there aren't very many cars I would even think to drive on that other than our trucks. Awesome video, by the way, that one is.

I'm a little confused, why the hell didn't you just jump that stuff?
LOL!
Nice video. You have more balls than me. Everytime I heard something hit, I cringed, and it wasn't even my truck.

This is in a public use area just west of Grand Junction. The spotter is a well renowned off-road guide and instructor, Bill Burke.

I put 135,000+ miles on a 95 Z-71 Silverado in basically stock form. I bought this 96 Yukon from my Father late last year with nearly 50,000 miles on it. It is bone stock except for the 285's and factory skid plates added by me.

My approach has been pretty mild for the past decades. I decided to begin to push the envelope and bought some professional training. I still have no goal to be a hard core rock crawler or mudder, I just want to be able to use roads to trailheads and byways like the Alpine Loop.

My intent is to see what I can accomplish in stock form and only change those things that really constrain my travels. Like Little Pearl said, the equipment is pretty dern capable in stock form and reasonably quiet and comfortable for the day long drive to get there and back.

I also get some fun out of negotiating obstacles in a mild mannered grocery getter. :)

Would get atleast a 3 inch suspension lift for that because if you hit a rock in something important then boom yo just ****** up and you gotta pay to get it towed out there and then to get towed to home plus repair bill and it kicks u in the ass later. Nice hoe tho. Is that a cv antenna? Looks weird

as long as you don't flex the front end up to any steep angles or drag over to much you shouldn't have to many problems. a lift of any kind would help you out though.

Sorry guys, I must not have my message thingy setup right. I wandered off and didn't check the thread.

Yes, the CB antenna is mounted through a hole in the bumper. It is just outboard of when the door strap stops the door.

That area is beautiful and worth a visit. Some of it is like MOAB with a variety of terrain. It is all public access. Google Bangs Canyon.

I have thought about a lift. But at this point I'm balancing the compromises and consequences. For any amount of lift, you can find an obstacle that is too big right up to the point that you're driving a rock buggy that isn't road worthy. In many circumstances the truck is already too tall, so I'm aiming for capability without significant height increases.

My goal with the truck is to set it up to be able to use "roads" and "trails" that are generally rated as "passable with a high clearance four wheel drive". The next day we drove the Alpine Loop and were well prepared for that trip.

Then at the end of the week we set the cruise control headed home and still got up to 17 MPG and a quiet comfortable ride.

I did discover my right front suspension bumper was blown out when I got the right front tire into the fender opening a bit and tweaked the sheet metal. I have since fixed that and learned a great deal about the function of that suspension component.

Now to find the settings section... :)

what kind of brushgaurd is that on it?

It is a "Go Rhino!" product. Cost about $500.00. I haven't found a proper bumper I like yet, so this will preserve the front plastic somewhat.
