99 denali no temp on mirror

Anybody have any ideas. The compass works fine but when you press temp it shuts off and doesnt display anyyhing

service manual dictates if you turn it on to temp setting and display is completely blank the mirror assembly must be replaced.

Its possible it is a connection, wire, or the sensor in the front.
The whole wire harness from the front plugs in by fire wall ,left fender
You can see sensor in pic ,center, under horn, mount bolt removed in pic

if the sensor had a malfunction of short or just missing the display would indicate it. the symptom dictates an internal problem to the mirror itself. not withe the power, ground, temp sensor or reverse gear circuit wiring to it.

Ya ! I guess your right ,cuz he has nothing on the display, mine has OC displayed on the mirror,for Open Circuit cuz ,there is no sensor or wires.
Going to swap the wire harness when I get to it

My 99 Z71 Tahoe was the same way only worked on compass and displayed OC when on temp. I did some tracing to find that there wasn't a temp sensor even installed on the truck anywhere and it appears it never came with one. All the wires were there up into the back of the mirror but couldn't find anything out to under the hood. I just replaced it with a later model mirror & harness because I think they look better and his has them both in one display but you can just locate the 2 wires for the temp sensor and add one if you want to go that route.

Thanks sunlit (months later) for the info, my dad's new Suburban (99) is doing the same thing, displays only the compass and the screen goes blank when I push the temp button, just like the OP's. I'll keep an eye out on ebay and Amazon.

My 97 yukon does the same thing. if its on temp when i start it i can see the thing light up with the degrees and Fahrenheit and Celsius symbols but then it just goes blank.
