97 Burban wont start, what to check for??

A friend of my wife has a 97 suburban. Her husband claims its not getting fire. He claims the spark plugs, wires and fuel filter have all recently been changed. Its turning over but will not actually start and run. My wife volunteered me to go look at it for them. :face palm: Of course she didn't even ask me first.
Anyways, my wife told her that we will go over there this evening and I would look at it and see if I can find anything wrong with it. So what is the obvious things I should check for? I know that these engines are notorious for the spider injectors going bad. Any other common fuel or ignition related problems these 350 Vortec engines are known for? I plan on checking the dist cap and rotor, verifying that the ignition coil is getting power, checking to make sure the rotor turns when the engine is cranking (to rule out any timing chain issues) and seeing if there's spark from the plug wires during cranking. What else should I check??

How "recent" was the tune up? if he just did the tune up verify that the position of all the wires on the Dizzy are correct.

Fuel pressure!

It was only getting 10lbs of fuel pressure when the key was turned on. In slowly climbed to about 40psi during cranking. The engine started when starting fluid was sprayed in the throttle body during cranking. So now I am leaning towards the fuel pump. He was thinking fuel pump as well, and already purchased one from O'Reillys.

TAKE IT BACK. Get the delphi oem for about $180 or less from amazon. They include improvements. Make sure the electric side is good and that the fuel filter on the frame rail is not clogged.

Don't you just love being volunteered and you're the last one to know about it?!....

Anyhow, avoid after market pump like the sunlit said. Mine only lasted like 6 months before pooping out.

I hope you didn't get volunteered to install the pump.

Yep get the delphi unit not trashy aftermarket. But you could get a walbro but i hear its not too good on tahoes. The walbro i put in my del sol has worked strong and great for me but is loud

Its not my truck. I didn't pay for the pump. I am not installing the pump. I just helped him diagnose the problem. So I could give two ***** what he installs in his truck.

If it were my truck it would be a Delco or Delphi pump. Just like when I did my AC last year I forked out the cash for a new Delco compressor and drier.
