8 Ohm-4 Ohm Speakers

I changed out the stock rear speakers in my 03 Tahoe. Stock speakers were 8 ohm

To Rockford 4 ohm

Is there going to be some kind of difference in anything? Sound or power?

UmmI think the rear D pillar speakers are ran in parallel with the rear doors, in with both together would be 4 ohm. So with a 4 and a 8 hooked up your sitting somewhere around 2.67 ohms...

Which is really probably too low for a stock amp. I haven't tried it though

So they're not getting enough power? I don't have those rear D pillar speakers, I had a non Bose. I now have a Pioneer DD in it. Speakers will sound too low now?

No he's saying the resistance would be too low which makes the sound louder but will be ******* the Pioneer and might blow the audio ic' s in it. Just like blowing an amp. The Pioneer has a built-in amp circuit ya know. I used to repair car stereo and have seen plenty of fried audio ic's. The safe way is to figure out what color wires at the back of the HU go to the rear channels and measure the resistance with a dvm, before and after the swap.

But there IS something left- the wiring. The way the original speakers are wired has an effect on the final resistance of each channel. The only way to be rid of every part of the original system is to replace all the wiring, and not just the speaker wiring but ALL the wiring that goes to the back of that Pioneer. Better get busy, this might take awhile lol. But as far as the speaker wiring, you might be able to get away with unplugging the d pillar speakers and the a pillar tweeters if they're still there, then measure all 4 channels and see if it matches the resistance of each individual speaker. Your Pioneer is designed to run at 4 ohms per channel so that's what you should be aiming for. Any higher and it wont be very loud and much less will blow the audio outputs of the Pioneer.

All I have are the door speakers, along with an amp'd sub. No A or D pillar speakers. The front doors do have those stock tweeters in there tho. I'm not even sure if they work.

(2) 4 ohm speakers in series would be 8 ohms so you'd have to add a second set. But I don't know of any amp or HU that works well with 8 ohms. 4 or 2, yes but not 8.

Most (if not all) aftermarket car audio products are 4 ohms or lower. Home audio products use 8 ohms by default.
