I bought a 1999 tahoe 4x4 5.7 vortec about a month ago for $3000 and it has no compression in number 4 cylinder now. First i figured bad spark plugs but a family Mechanic says it most likely bad. $600 labor for just a swap. He says rebuild could cost more than a new motor.

I don't have a way of doing the labor myself and just bought the truck. What's my options and price ranges of the options? Used motor, new motor, remanned? Where can I find these? Should I consider a 383 replacement?

********* on the rebuild being so expensive. Unless it needs to be bored and whatnot then maybe but for me it was 1200 with everything on my rebuild

Did you do your rebuild yourself? I won't be able to do that. Remanned I've found are running around 1,500 to 1,700 + 600 labor.

now tell me you want a remanned with reused parts done by who ever or brand new built by gm itself.

if you want the legal ht383e designed and built by AVAILABLE IN MOST STATES, which is also new, that will cost $5300. http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet+Performance/809/17800393/10002/-1

it is a drop in unit but some pcm recalibration will get some more out of it. and all external mods bolt right on.

Looks like it'll be jeggs. I called around just to check on rebuilds and all three were slightly less or at the same price for a new engine.
