I have a 2008 Yukon Hybrid 4X4 and I'm looking to replace the transmission but I'm seeing a lot of conflicting info. I can find a handful of used tested transmissions but most are from 2010 and later. Although they are the same model number some say it will work and others say you need one from an 08 or 09, 2010 or later won't fit. Anyone have any clarification on this... They look identical but I know they updated the aux fluid pump in 2010 other than that I see not difference. Thanks for any help!

I certainly don't know for sure, but I believe that you are correct, in that there were some transmission changes/updates/improvements in the 2009 and later vehicles in the GMT900 series.

I have read it's hard to change from a 2wd to a 4wd, but it can be done by a tranny shop if you found one willing to touch it. or disassemble it yourself. I don't believe it matters what year, but I keep an eye out for a cheap spare for my 2011, was hoping to find 2011 and up just because. I only see older ones for cheap. locally mostly under 2009 are getting parted out right now. I don't believe afm has killed the 2010 and up as often yet. but it's coming.

see attached for a tsb that does show difference part numbers for different years. might be helpfully.

I have found 4x4 used but most I find are 2010 and newer. I did find 1 4x4 out of a 2008 Silverado but I'm getting conflicting info that it will fit. I mean you would think a 4x4 08 Silverado should go right in a 4x4 Yukon 08. I just don't want to drive 3 hours to buy something that won't work. Lol

Searching all over the web, using ChatGPT to compile information and find manuals. I was going to do a fluid change and filter change and when I took the pan down there were chunks of metal i it. Looks like pieces of a clutch spacer. Was driving perfect no indication of any problem. So it had not failed yet but it was going to. I found a few places online that sell like the clutch parts but I honestly don't have any place of of the weather big enough to rebuild it so I was just looking to swap it but don't want to cause more problems than I fix.

I figure the tranny will be the downfall of mine. I can fix most other things. I do see posts about them going 300k pretty routinely though, so fingers crossed mine is one of those. How many miles happens to be on yours?

My experience with all these Ai searches. And now even Google search AI crap is a knowledge is just generalized BS Gobbledy goop together.

I wouldn't believe much of what you find there. it probably doesn't know a 6l80 in a GMT 900 from a 2m70 hybrid. The 6l80 did get some different things along the way

240K miles.

I'm at 170k. so I'm hopeful. making 240 wouldn't be so bad for me. I do need to find a spare while I don't need it thou. there's a 2wd one near more for 600$. but not sure if I can make it work.

what location are you. there's a transmission guy here on the board. I believe he's in Las Vegas area. he would be the only one that might be interested in rebuilding one.

I'm in Pittsburgh. I have found a few used ones within 3-4 hours but having a hard time finding out if they will work or not. Don't want to go driving all over and spending a lot of money chasing down the wrong things.

the ex gm tech, says they changed the aux pump connector and harness in 2010 and newer. but tranny should all be the same. as long as it's 2wd or 4wd.

That's what I was hoping to hear. That's the only real change I had heard so that opens up more options I've already seen where you can buy harness adapters for the difference in pumps so if it comes down to it that isn't so major.
