Looks like we are off to a great start. Get P06DD code and limp mode on Saturday. Check oil and it looks extremely dirty. Less than 5k miles on it.

Get oil changed, goes to the dealer and they can’t find anything wrong with it. Have it back an hour and then it does the same thing.

Dealer now waiting for GM tech advice to tell them what to do next, which i assume will be to drop the oil pan.

3L Duramax oil turns extremely black within the first 100 miles. 100% normal and not indicative of a problem.

Where does the oil pressure needle show on the gauge when you're driving? Could be a faulty pump or wiring to the pump variable displacement solenoid. Sorry you're going through this, but this is the first time I've heard of anyone having a problem with the 3L Duramax oil pump.

Pressure was siting about 20-25 at idle and variation between 35-60 while driving. I think this is pretty normal.

We got an update yesterday, that they don’t really know what to do next and waiting for a master tech to come and look at it.

Less than 5k on the oil or less than 5k on the truck or both?

While I'm sure you aren't happy, I wouldn't read too much into this till you really know. Could be many things and 2/3rd of them are probably very simple initial build issues.

Not really but all cars break. As long as they can fix it quickly no big deal. I just don’t want it to be something where it sits in the shop for weeks.

They couldn’t find anything wrong with a p06dd code? I wouldn’t trust the dummy gauges, the oil pressure needs to be checked with gauge or scanner. Could be the oil pump itself or just a sensor. Either way, imperative you get it fixed.

They said they couldn’t find anything wrong. Either way, it’s sat there now until they solve it.

I have had the P06dd code for over 4 month. Oil pressures were fine, watched them on scan tool. Oil level was good. Everytime I would idle for a minute or 2 it would come on and had to clear the code while giving it a good dose of throttle.
Traveled over 5600miles with the issue and finally had enough of it and had a little down time.
Took to dealership on Monday and less than 3 hours they called me and said it was the oil pressure solenoid valve.. part# 40009179
They ordered it, replaced it, and ready for pick up Wednesday at lunch.
I researched this code for months and not one single forum or youtube video ever mentioned this solenoid, that I recall.

I know mine is the LM2 and yours is the LZ0, but I would highly recommend pushing this information to your dealership.
It resolved my issues. Current mileage on my 22 Burb HC is 142,069 at time of replacement.

Odd to me that the wiri g for that solenoid wasn’t better protected to be submersed in oil and heat…

Yeah appears to be quite a bit of shrapnel in there either way. Unfortunate, but I did find two other examples of very similar on the interwebs. Same code, same result.

Whole engine replaced. Crossing fingers that’s the end of it. :)

And that's the way it should be handled. No screwing around.... get the guy a new engine. Still a pretty rare failure scenario for this engine.....

Looks like a mangled thrust bearing in the bottom of the pan. Likely a mis-build at the plant. First time I've heard of it, so it's certainly rare but like all man made assemblies there's room for error.

Sounds like you got a quick turn around - glad it's back up and running for you.

Same issue with ours started yesterday. Oil pressure rarely getting over 20. Dealer said likely bad oil pump. He did not have great things to say about the duramax in general. He said a lot of emissions issues with this also

Wife has a '21 with 48k on it.
I spent the last week in it on a large road trip.

I noticed that 'at times' the oil pressure was below 30psi at highway speeds, at other times it was running a fair a bit higher. I don't recall this ever being a thing. Also, after it had been running for a while it really seemed like it had a knock at idle. Mileage was amazing, ~30mpg on 2 lane state highways.

Not sure if it's really exhibiting an issue, planning on taking a 'wait and see' approach with the dealer on this one.

I don't think the LM2 was out that year but apparently these run quite low oil pressure-- 20psi around idle/low RPM

P06DD was code

Dealer said oil pressure solenoid was shorted. Picked up last week. we'll see how it goes
