2022 Yukon Denali - delayed L87 engine recall

I received the L87 recall letter several months ago, but for some reason my dealer says GM has not released my Yukon to be inspected. I was due for an oil change and they refused to put in the 0w40 oil saying it was being reserved for the recall vehicles so I had to put in the 0w20 - seems stupid. Is GM trying to stretch out these recalls so as to not overwhelm the supply of new 6.2's?

Also intersting - my service writer told me the recall was a 4-hour inspection process because they had to pull the plugs and check compression in all the cylinders. I've not heard of them doing this anywhere else. This seems odd because if there was a connecting rod bearing issue, it would not show up in a compression test! Seems like they should be dropping the pan and checking the rod bearings. I only have 35k miles, but when I eventually have the recall done, I'm wondering if I should just have them replace the plugs while theyre all out. Theyre about 1/3 through their life, but the labor should be close to zero. Any thoughts?

Removing the spark plugs and doing a compression check on the engines subject to the recall was not listed in any of the documents filed with the NHTSA by GM.

I think your service advisor is telling you a tall tale.

We also have a 2022 Yukon Denali. My first letter is dated May 2025. I think I got it in June. Still waiting for the second letter before I contact the Dealer. But I am coming up on oil change time (4k miles for me) so I may be taking it to the Dealer before I get my letter. Will keep everyone posted. So far, knock on wood, our Denali has been awesome. Runs and idles so smooth, so quiet. Plenty of room inside, plenty of power, drives and handles like a dream. I don't know what more you could ask of a vehicle.

Had my L87 test done on Friday on my Tahoe High Country and passed. Got the Special Coverage 10 year or 150k mile warranty. My 2022 High Country has 66,000 miles for reference. Good luck to anyone else that will be going in for the recall. My dealership did say that out of 19 cars that have been tested only 1 failed so its not every car like people are making it out to be.

update I got mine tested and it passed. Do I really trust the test.. Not really, but I am done thinking about it.

LOL, they are not taking anything upon themselves. If GM isn't paying them to do it,,, then they aren't doing it. There is no charity work happening in a dealership garage.

The service advisor was either clueless or lying. Which a lot of service advisors are clueless liars, so it may be a combination of both actually.

I have a 2024 HIGH COUNTRY Tahoe. I too have received the letter but have not been given any additional advice on what to do. I go to my GM owners web site and all I can see is 'unresolved' which I guess means "They ain't knowing what to do with me yet". So I just keep driving it to Illinois or Florida (I live in Georgia) and hope for the best......I guess???? Just what I have been doing and nothing bad has happened yet. But Geez.............

Call your dealership and have them run your VIN. Although the wording in the GM app isn't at all clear, when it changed from the initial wording, that was an indicator that my truck's VIN was released to have the testing done. I got my truck tested 3+ weeks ago, and I still haven't gotten the second letter.
