2022 Tahoe purchase

Hey everyone, first time poster here. I recently put a $1500 deposit down on a 22 Tahoe 5.3 in transit to the dealer. Started doing some research and you guys have me nervous to say the least. Seeing lots of issues, not just here but on YouTube as well. I also did a deep dive on AutoTrader and have seen a lot of 21 models with unusual service records (I doubt the dealer always lists the actual reason) and the occasional lifter replacement, or electrical issue.

Are these problems really that frequent? I assume you should always expect some bad ones to get through, but this seems extreme.

Any numbers on how many are actually seeing issues?

Any difference with issues on the 22 models versus the 21 models?

Should I just let my deposit go and move on to another brand for now?? I keep my stuff pristine and the last thing I want is the motor being replaced right off the bat. I also worry that once this recession get going, resale values may tank…so I don’t want to rely on resale values. Appreciate the feedback.

I'm not sure anyone can answer this question. We got new in 2019 and kind of glad we did with all the problems with the new design. Had my share of bad luck with new GM vehicles but our last three have been perfect. (knock on wood)

We have a 21 premier with zero problems, runs fantastic and we don’t worry about a thing.

I had a 2021 Yukon At4 that stayed in the shop...a lot of mickey mouse crap....when we traded it off the bluetooth speaker was all warbled and the SD card error was still popping up (I could list everything else, but after 17 trips into the shop just tells me it was an outlier)

We have a 2022 Z71 now, had it for about 3 months, 10k on it and other than the headlight sensor no "major" issues...the only thing that perturbs me is when you use the button on the tailgate, it opens only about half the time with one press....the other half of the time the first press makes it unlatch and to make it open you have to press the button again (the button on the tailgate, not the remote)

We deliberately downsized on the tech and so far so good

All brands seem to have taken a hit recently, so you may walk away from what is perceived to be an issue and walk straight into a nightmare.

i'd stick with the 2022

I’m still getting used to my 22 (had it only about 2.5 months) but have not had any issues while putting on some decent mileage during a few lengthy trips. It’s such a great vehicle, I’m glad I stuck it out and got one!

21 premier, 16,000+ miles. No problems, best ride we’ve ever owned. I would say if your getting it at sticker or below then your not gona lose on this, the big GM suvs and diesel trucks have always been some of the best resale vehicles for decades.

21 premier here. Had it for 15 months. Have 27k on the clock. Oil changes and tire rotations only.
Consider, they build hundreds of thousands of these things and you’ll only hear about the complaints. Rarely do people seek out these forums to praise their trucks

I have a 2022 built in April, no problems so far other than the wonky daytime running light sensor, 5,500 miles so far and loving it.

I had the same problem and giving the switch a "healthy" squeeze fixed it for me and now opens every time as it should.
Our 2022 Yukon SLT 4wd 5.3 with max tow package now has 6k on it towing a 4,000 pound trailer 5,000 of those miles with no issues other than the headlight sensor which was replaced right after I got it. Just got back from a 3,000 mile trip yesterday towing our travel trailer and averaged 14 mpg. We had approx 1,000 pounds of cargo and people in the Yukon and a hitch weight of 540 pounds and the Yukon did squat some but it never felt out of control at any time and rides great. Big improvement over our 2015 Yukon we traded in!

I've been pretty deliberate with ours and it still does it...seems that it'll do it if the gate hasn't been opened in a few days. And then it'll only do it once during that day...haven't had it happen where i've opened several times throughout the day and then it does it, always happens on the first attempt that day...almost like the computer system is surprised by it

I suspect when/if GM decides to do away with the V8's like Ford and Toyota that's when all if the brands will officially be crap in the large SUV segment. I was a Ford Expedition guy until they dud away with the v8 option. No way a turbo charged v6 will last and low and behold I was right. I had a 2013 Nissan Armada which was ok but the design was so dated. I'm happy with my 2016 Yukon SLT. Just hoping for no lifter issues.

2022 Premier, 4000 miles in eight months, 6.2, no problems.
My retirement job at the Ford dealer used to be various tasks and swapping new vehicles around the Southeast when they called. The swapping is down by 99% maybe. Now it's mostly bringing in vehicles for service on electronics, "reprogramming." Some of these customers I know by their first name since I see them so often. The last one was a hybrid F150 that the owner felt was dangerous with many issues. He stopped at a light and had to put the gear selector in Manual to make it move. As I returned to the dealer it seemed to be OK until I passed slower traffic with the cruise on and it slammed on the brakes for no reason. The drivers behind me had to figure I was a huge jerk.

Exactly what my 2022 does. It's done it since day one. It's starting to piss me off along with a handful of other issues (nothing major, just stuff that shouldn't be happening on a brand new $65k vehicle)

If I press the button on the tailgate it will open every time without fail if I've used it recently. If it sits over night and I go to put something in it the next morning, it's about 70% chance it won't open on first press. It seems to only be with the button on the tailgate itself. If I use the key fob or button inside, it works every time.

Are you meaning that you gave it a healthy squeeze once and then it worked every time going forward? Like maybe your healthy squeeze may have put something back into place that was off that was causing the issue? Or you have to give it a healthy squeeze every single time you open it with the tailgate button?

I mean I have to give it the "healthy" squeeze every single time I need to open the tailgate. Easier to just use the hands free under the rear.

I’d show this to the dealer and ask that they replace the switch.
