I have a 2021 Yukon Denali, 4 times while driving it comes to a complete stop for no reason. Took it into the local dealer and they can’t find anything wrong. So today my husband was driving at a speed of 65mph while set on cruise and it did it again and then resumed back to the speed set. This is very dangerous and now I’m afraid to drive this very expensive vehicle.... has anyone else had this issue...

Wonder if the cruise control is active when it’s occurring. If it’s on, maybe the adaptive cruise control is engaging when it shouldn’t due to a false reading. Maybe that would give you piece of mind that it won’t engage unexpectedly unless it’s the collision avoidance system.

If it’s not coming from the adaptive cruise, maybe it’s the collision avoidance/automatic braking although that shouldn’t engage at that speed although can be disabled through the vehicle settings area as a workaround for now.

Just curious…how old and how many miles are on it? I’ve got a 2021 Tahoe with the collision avoidance/automatic braking but not adaptive cruise. I haven’t had that happen yet but have seen a few complaints on the NHTSA website about what you’re describing happening on a 2021 Tahoe before (think on the complaint they replaced a sensor in the mirror that was sending a false reading to the computer). Might want to lodge a complaint there too.

How’s the rain been by you?

I've noticed that the sensors on these trucks can get a little finicky when they are waterlogged. I think that the sensors aren’t always aligned properly and either the rain screws with the sensors perception or get a false reading.

the above is not particularly for the 21 but the last gen too

3 times it happened and I was pulling out onto an intersection. Today it was on cruise so it’s happening at different times. Mine is a 2021 Yukon Denali with 12,000 miles.
Where do I go to file a complaint?

April: curious what your dealer has said so far. That seems crazy!

Advise your dealer to look up #PIT5836.

They said they checked the systems, there are no updates, contacted Gm and was told they have had no complaints. Now it’s going back in tomorrow as it did it this time at 65 mph

On 4-5 occasions since purchasing a new 2021 GMC Yukon Denali the automatic breaking function has engaged for no reason, with no obstruction in the roadway. It has occurred at low speed (after disengaging break and starting to drive), as well as on the highway at high speed. Obviously, this is a major safety issue. I had the car in to service last year and they said the move the toll transponder. We did that. Subsequently, this issue has occurred multiple times. So yesterday, I called and spoke to service team at the dealer. They said to bring the car in and move the transponder further away from the center of the top of the windshield. We removed it. I asked him to note our file and he said we had to have the car in to service to do that. He said to call GMC at 800-462-8782 and report the issue. So I called the # and asked them if this has happened to other owners and she said she could not tell me and she could not note her file either. So we will bring the car in to have the service dept run a diagnostic. I will attempt to disengage this function by reading the manual.

I have a 2022 and while mine hasn't done this at highway speeds, it has done it backing out of the driveway a few times and scares the $hi! out of me. I was going to turn off auto braking function but it is nice to have, if it does it at highway speeds I am disabling it for good lol.

Today the automatic breaking function on my 21 GMC Yukon Denali XL was also engaged for no reason, with no obstruction on the roadway. The car suddenly came to an abrupt stop causing the passengers to jolt forward violently. Scary situation! This is a SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE! We have experienced several other instances that the vehicle showed false collision detection sensor readings and simultaneously caused the driver seat to vibrate. The escalation of this problem and discovery of these other posts have prompted me to research this issue. I can not find any recall issued for this.

IT IS IMPERATIVE that everyone who has experienced this issue report it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. You can do so online at https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index. NHTSA is charged with investigating potential vehicle safety risks to determine the severity of the safety hazard, likelihood of occurrence, and affected population size. Reporting will put the government and GMC on formal notice so there will be no way for GMC to deny being aware of this issue. The more Yukon owners who report the better. By reporting this issue we can SAVE LIVES!

Also, this issue seems ripe for a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against GMC. Has anyone spoken to an attorney about this possibility?

Also curious to see if anyone has gotten their dealership to identify the problem and/or fix it? So far we are getting the runaround and total minimization of this serious issue.

I for one, am scared to drive my family in this expensive vehicle that was bought for its safety features!

This morning as I was leaving home driving about 35 MPH, the emergency braking system engaged on my 2021 Denali for no reason and about scared me to death. It was an empty street with no other cars and no pedestrians. I was reading the previous posts. In my case I also have a toll transponder which is mounted to the upper center of the windshield. There was a brief red dash warning, but I didn't get a chance to read it. Guess I'll log this event and see if it happens again.

I filed a report with NHTSA.

I hesitated to chime in on this one, but yeah, my 21 has done this several times in the 14k miles I've driven. When the wife's in the vehicle she looks over at me with that "are you nuts" look and I just point to the pedals and say "Wasn't me!" After the first three or four times, I had the dealer look at it. They claimed they made some adjustments, but I can't tell that it helped. Turned it off in vehicle settings but it still happens, usually in an intersection or entry/exit ramp when guardrails, bridges or other abutments are around.

Scariest was two weeks ago on I-65 in steady rain. I normally don't try to squeeze around sleepers in the left lane, but after a few miles of waiting I finally passed on the right. When I pulled back to the left lane (which was open) the Yukon suddenly slammed on the brakes. I immediately hammered the accelerator to try to override and everything turned out OK, but I know the guy I passed thought I was trying to be a smart-aleck.

I'd be interested to know when accidents start resulting from this glitch. So far only luck has kept me from getting rear-ended. If this happens at an inopportune moment when a tractor trailer is following closely it could be game over.

I second what Yokun said: If this happens to you, you should file a report with NHTSA. Every time!

I have a question about the automatic braking system on a 2021 Yukon Denali and I hope someone out there can answer it. When the collision avoidance automatic braking is activated, is the event logged into the vehicle's computer? It would be very important evidence if this system causes an accident. This would be good to know.
