The other thing that sucks is these direct injection engines are day by day coking up the valves. I wonder what kind of longevity these are going to have compared to the port injected engines. I suspect you won't be getting 250,000 miles out of these without having to tear down enough to blast the the valves free of all the buildup.....but by then it will be out of warranty and GM will tell you it's your problem. I've read a lot on direct injection and it is an issue that they either won't or can't address. I have never given catch cans a second thought but if anything might get an advantage from one its these GDI engines IMO. GM will attempt to void your warranty dependent on what's broken if they find one on there. Pretty stupid if you ask me.
No problem, I didn't bring it up but I have no problem not discussing it.Lets get away from bringing the Government into this thread. Thank you.
I use Mobil in all my vehicles now. Maybe it will not be a big enough problem to cause a failure but I wonder if little by little the engines are loosing performance and the gradual effect goes unnoticed. Like the frog in a pot of warm water. I would think if these deposits cause slight issues the computer would compensate for it and you would loose something, power or MPG? I don't know enough about it but I have seen a bunch of ugly pictures of the back sides of valves with pretty low mileage on the 5.3 Ecotec. If there was a issue with these Direct Injections would have heard something by now as they have been out for awhile. Have been in Livery 2015 Suburban's with over 200K miles and the drivers said no issues with the Direct Injection. Plus the ones in Miami are constantly idling to keep the interior nice and cold.
All of the drivers also said their vehicles are serviced regularly every 5-6K miles by the dealer. All said they do not have to add oil between oil changes. All said they use 0w20 Mobil 1.
Using Top Tier Fuel [like Mobil] will probably save you headaches in the long run.
No problem, not sure about the nice guy thing tho.....lolThanks Galante. You're a nice guy and have been very helpful and supportive on some of my other questions. People like you who go the extra mile to help somebody out are what makes a good forum.

I hope you are right and they will have the longevity of the previous generation engines. My 2003 5.3 Suburban ran great up to the day I traded it with well over 200,000 and the engine was never opened up for anything. Now was it performing as well as it was when it had 5,000 miles on it?...I don't know. I'm hoping these will stand the test of time also. The pictures and videos of the oil and coking are a reason for concern for me though.
Yeah me too. I know some foreign manufacturers are doing it and Ford is doing it on a few engines too. It sure would make me feel better about the setup.I really wish GM had the Port and Direction Injection mixed in together.
On the 4 speeds we can make tow haul the sport mode, you would just let us know if you would like that feature when we do the tune.Is sport mode a standard or custom option?
No extra charge for the sport mode.Justin asked me if I wanted him to 'convert' the factory Tow Mode feature to Sport Mode. There was no extra charge for it at that time (Spring 2017). I think, but don't know for sure, that it's a no-charge option for all tunes that BBP provides.
I don't use it often, but it's very noticeable when selected. It raises the shift points, firms up the shifts and pretty much eeks out every ounce of juice the otherwise stock engine & trans can yield. Truck definitely gets up and moves out sharply.
We really appreciate that, we are happy you are enjoying the tune. Let us know if you need anything else.Run, do not walk, to Black Bear Performance. Justin tuned mine in person. I'm happy as can be.
I told him that I'm a suburban dad who just wants optimized throttle response and transmission shift points, and I wasn't looking to do burnouts or 11-seconds in the 1/4 mile. He also converted my Tow Mode to Sport Mode. Made it a whole new truck.

Happy to help. Yes, you can keep AFM enabled, it would be up to you if you want us to disable it.Thanks, for the reply.
I do have the 6-speed transmission.
One other question, Can you keep the AFM in the tuning package. I do a lot of highway driving.
According to the Chevy web site, you are correct on the warranty. The catch is that it must be selected at the time of purchase. In talking to my local dealer, the finance manager said that they did not have the paperwork for it yet.Well after a long wait with the strike and all my 2020 LS Custom finally came in. Now they just need to take everything off the 19 Midnight Edition,View attachment 234714 View attachment 234715 plus install a PPV air dam and put it on the 20 and I should be good to go. I'm dropping off my 19 Monday and hopefully I should drive off in the new one on Tuesday. In the end it's going to cost me $8,000 to do the switch. I'm hoping to keep this one longer than I usually do so I am thinking about the Chevrolet Extended Limited Warranty. From what I have been able to research it's not a protection plan, it just extends the factory warranty to 5 years.
