I have a 2011 GMC Yukon Denali that makes a thump upon take-off, the driverside motor mount has already been replaced. Does anyone have any advice for what may be happening.

Welcome from SoCal.

What’s your milage and do you happen to know if the previously replaced motor mount was OEM and / or the fluid filled version for the Denali & Escalade?

Replacement of just one motor mount taxes the burden on the other used mount similar to why shocks are always replaced in pairs. The other mount may have failed.

The clunk can be sway bar bushings, front diff (dog bone) mount bushings, a front strut mount bushing or even a upper / lower control arm / tie rod end or rack bushing.

You’ll need a shop to pry & poke all of them to find the culprit. At 100k all of those should be replaced regardless.

Check the new mount, check the brackets that the front differential bolts too and also inspect your universal joints and the yoke going into the back of the transmission/transfer case.

I say that you have a 90% chance that it is the front differential mounts. Been there, done that. Purchase the 2 mount arms with bushings already installed to make the job easier.

A lesser chance it is the slip yoke on the front end of the rear driveshaft coming out of the transmission assembly. Replace it with a nickel plated slip yoke.

Is it just on take off? Do you have any other symptoms? Our old Suburban had totally shot U-Joints (couldn't tell until they were removed) that caused a clunk every time you put it in foward or reverse. It also caused noise and dash vibrations at 50-60 MPH. Not above or below that though, oddly.

I have the same thing with my 2WD 12’ Tahoe, bought it used at 150k mi mo accidents, reg maintenance. Motor mount has been changed around 110k.

When I press the gas with medium throttle I hear and feel this thump coming from the drivers side. I don’t think it’s the struts, but upon looking at YouTube for similar issues I stumbled upon a myriad of GMT900 engine mount replacement videos.

Is this most likely the cause? I have 2WD not 4WD

You really need to replace both at the same time, a loose driver mount will start tearing the passenger mount

Approx 1 year ago, and I don't know what brand the mechanic used

check that it's not ripped again, cheap auto parts store ones but always last very long. there's a quick video towards the end of the motor mounts sticky thread showing what a bad one looks like when you put it in drive and hit the gas while holding the brake.
