My Denali is currently at the dealer to have a couple things looked at. But the big issue is the Nav is causing me problems:

I can be driving down the road with a destination programmed in, then without warning I'll get a screen that tells me to load my nav disc. Have to manually eject the disc and reinsert it to "reboot" it, which then means I have to pull off the side of the highway to come to a complete stop to reenter my destination before continuing.

The disc always makes a bit of a whirring noise even without the key in the ignition. More recently on cold mornings it's been a really loud groaning and it goes on for as much as 30 seconds.

The radio station buttons that are stored across the bottom of the screen, on cold mornings if I touch one to change the channel it selects an entirely different channel from a different row of favorites. For example- Favorites 1- if I select the station that's the second station from the left, it will select the 2nd station from the left from Favorites 2 or 3 screen.

So bottom line is it's likely the head unit will be replaced. Since I've got a July '09 production Denali it's one of the last without the usb input on the back of the head unit. I would like them to install a 2010 unit if the cost is the same to the warranty company. But the service manager said it can't be done unless I change the Body Control Module and buy a 2010 nav disc. Can the BCM's really be that different year to year? FWIW- this is not a GM warranty item but another reputable extended warranty that would be paying.

Thoughts?

Anyone? Got the word at the end of the day yesterday that the nav head unit screen is bad so a new one has to be ordered. I'd really like to get USB capability if possible. But they want to order the unit today. Thanks

I believe there a a few threads on this one, search for the swap, from what i remember the plugs are totally different and you need a special harness to make the newer radio work on the older vehicles, not that its impossible but you need extra harnesses. Guys are swapping the hard drive usb radios into our older vehicles, my 2008 will take it but not without the harness.

Good luck

Well, the dealer did do some research. Body Control Module is in fact different so not interchangable. Had to just install a new 2009 head unit to replace the bad one. Oh well, could be worse- I could be paying for in not the warranty.
