2008 Tahoe LTZ...do I have a lemon...???

Traded up to a 2008 Tahoe LTZ from a 2005 Yukon SLT. In the last month and a half it's been in the shop numerous times:

1. Noise (whistling) coming from front windshield infront of passenger - dealership repaired - new windshield was not sealed correctly
2. Cruise working on and off - traced to a bad brake pedal light switch - again covered under warranty (my Tahoe came with a 3 month/5000km bumper to bumper BTW)
3. Driver's side door lock stopped working - bad accuator (which I have read happens A LOT) - again warranty covered it but cost me a $100 deductable
4. First oil change - technician finds both front axle seals leaking badly - covered under powertrain warranty
5. While fixing axle seals found a leaking oilpan gasket and rear u-joint was shot - again all fixed under warranty - explained the slight vibration when accelerating
6. Also decided to have the front and rear diff as well as the transfer case oil flushed...glad I did as it needed it badly...$300
7. New 20" tires and 4 tpms sensors installed (doesn't really count but it is an expense) - $800

They also informed me the rear diff had been rebuilt. Is this normal for a vehicle with 60,000 miles on it???

I am getting a bit worried as my Tahoe has been in the shop more times in the brief 3 month period I have owned it than my Yukon did in almost 4 years. My friend that is a tech at the dealership I deal with was able to do the work on it this last go around...and he went over it from front to back and says everything else looks good. Do I have a possible lemon on my hands or did I just happen to have to do a bunch of regular maintenance all at once?

I know you bought it from the dealer, but did you get the carfax on it? Could it be a possibility that this car was wrecked and fixed. Why was the diff rebuilt? It sounds like this car was on an accident. You might have a lemon on your hands if that's the case, one thing after another. You might want to find out the lemon law on your state, or see if the dealer will take it back, for another one. Good luck with that.

Personally it doesn't sound like a lemon to me. Sounds more like bad luck and routine maintenance issues. I wouldn't sweat it.

I had an 08 Tahoe LTZ and NOTHING went wrong with it. The chrome door handle broke and was handled by warranty. I only had mine until 43k miles though.

Carfax was 100% clear. Routine maintenance definitely was not done. The rebuilt diff was what caught my attention. I really like the vehicle otherwise...just hope the spending spree is over with for a while. Thanks guys.

Just clicked over 100,000 km...so 60,000 miles.

I dont consider that a lemon. Thats all Maintience stuff. Now if you kept having problems with the diff and kept having to rebuild it then that could fall under the lemon law.

That's not a lemon, at least in Ca. First, the windshield was replaced and the guy did a crappy job. Not the truck's fault. second, the cruise is fine, it's a $10 brake switch that caused the problem. Next, a door lock actuator that could have cost $400, but was warranty too. You said the truck obviously did not get maintained, so a few leaking seals is not surprising, especially at 60K. That same lack of maintenance (and probable abuse), could easily be the reason for the diff. needing a rebuild. The mystery is why you would buy it knowing it had not been maintained properly?

Seems like a stupid question to ask. No, I would not have bought it if I'd known what I know after having it for 3 months. It came with a 3 month/5000km warranty since it was a "GM Optimum Certified" vehicle so I thought it would be safe. The joys of buying used.

Our 07 Denali is at 63k and it seems like it has needed a lot of maintenance in the last few thousand miles. We bought it with 40k and I don't think much was done by the original owner. It's a hassle and anything at the dealer is going to be expensive. I think they secretly have a $500 minimum.

From now on I will be going through my friend that is the tech as he does work after hours for a fraction of the cost. It does seem like every time you take a vehicle in for service it is a $500 bill...if you're lucky. Funny how that works.
