maybe try this: disconnect the batt, spray maf cleaner into the maf sensor across the little hairs, spray some tb cleaner into the blade then swap some plugs out, reconnect batt. did you check the relay/fuses for the traction control? maybe a plug is loose on the hub for the abs.

I believe that is what the dealer did while the vehicle was there...except for changing the plugs..but..I am definitely game for doing it myself so that way I know it was definitely done.

Thanks for your help

No problem man, just throwing some stuff out, hard to figure out what's up with it without being there in person, just some stuff I thought of!! Sounds like the communication between the pedal and the motor is messed up, I don't know much about all of that, sorry!! Good luck and keep us up to date!!

tahoe back to the dealer....

... I brought it back to them this past Thursday...told them they could have it for the weekend.
I almost got T ***** at a busy intersection.... as I went to make my left hand turn... I stepped on the accelerator...and the motor just idled.. there I was idling through the intersection with traffic coming at me at SPEED!
Guy behind me honking his horn as he wanted to follow me through.. so I made it through as a couple cars hit the brakes and I idled to the side of the road.. after about 10 seconds.... accelerator started working again...
I told the dealer it's dangerous to drive.. which it is... my wife refuses to drive it!
I'll find out more on Monday.
I sure hope they figure this out.
One thing I noticed.. when I turned the traction control off.. the vehicle seemed to respond better. No more flat spot either. Maybe related problem somehow???

Any input is always appreciated

thanks

I would bet it is the Sensor acting up, especially since it happens when turning left, I believe what is happening is its thinking it is slipping and engaging the Traction Control.

I may be wrong but if it were my truck I would be checking the Sensors out.

I hear ya.. this also happened twice while i was in stop and go traffic on a major highway.. no turning.. and on the dic.. came up.."traction control active" geez.. no turns.. wasn't barely moving.. just at idle.

I'm waiting for a call from the dealer tomorrow.. I have this awful feeling they'll find nothing.. or try to sell me something

spoke to the dealer today...

oh.. first.. what's a CEL?

so.. the dealer said.. apparently it is one of two sensors .. that is sending an incorrect reading to make the traction control come on and then it does it's thing with the throttle body? go figure! but.. he needs the truck for another day or two so they can figure out which sensor.. but.. they say they are close and should be able to repair it. So.. we'll see.. I hope to have it back by Wed.
I'm crossing my fingers!!!
Will keep you updated

latest update

Just got off the phone with the dealership..
.. apparently.. it's a combination.. wheel speed sensor/bearing/hub assembly.. that is at fault.. or giving a faulty reading and setting off the traction control that is disabling the throttle body.
Dealerships being what they are.. they are not willing to help with cost of repair .. nor is gm willing to assist.. although timwise.. i'm within the limit of the warranty. i'm over on the mileage.. geez. i was over three days after i bought the truck as i drove it back and forth to florida!

I mentioned I wasn't happy but had no choice but to have them fix it. I explained that since I had this problem from the first week. I would've expected some help as far as customer service goes.

So.. from any of the experts here.. does this sound like a possibility as far as the correct repair for this type of problem?

Thanks in advance guys.. for your advice and for listening to me.

Sounds rights, I thought it would have to do with the wheel sensors.

latest update re: customer service !!!

Hey everybody.
In my last post... I mentioned that the warranty refused to cover this repair and that the dealership refused also.... but.. I spoke with the service manager last nite and expressed my displeasure as to the customer service, but, I agreed to pay for the repair, as I didn't have much choice anyways. He in turn said to send him a timline as to what has happened with tihs problem since I bought the vehicle, and he would make another effort to see what he could do. So I did what he asked.. and also.. to show that this problem has persisted for a while, I sent him the link to this thread so he could read, and follow it and pass it on to whoever he needed to try to convince that this should be covered by warrantee and that I was not looking to get something for nothing.

This morning I received a call from the service advisor who told me that the vehicle was repaired...AND .. that the service manager , I guess, pulled some strings , and this WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.

No doubt I am happy to hear that.. and not so much as it was the issue of the money that had to be paid but more of an issue with customer service.
After being in retail for many years and understanding that a happy customer is a repeat customer, I'm glad to see the service manager went the extra step to make me a happy customer.

The technician is keeping the car one more nite and going to drive it home and back to work , just to make sure the repair is complete and there are no other issues with it. I will pick up the vehicle in the morning.
Ken.. if you're reading this.... Thank you for all your efforts.. they are very much appreciated!

Thanks to all of you on this forum who tried to help as well.
Let's cross our fingers and hope this is the end of this problem.

Hi, I am having the same problem on my 04 Escalade! Although the dealer covered your cost for the repair, could you tell me how much it would have cost you had you had to pay?

same problem??? well..

well....I've had the tahoe back for almost two days now.. so far.. so good. The stumble off idle seems to be.. I think almost all gone.. and I feel more confident driving it. It sure doesn't have that major stumble it use to have and has yet to lose communication with the throttle body. So.. so far.. all good news.

As far as you having the same problem.. my dealer said the repair was worth 550.00 and was willing to do it for 500.00. They had my truck for almost a week.. I'm sure diagnosing this thing was no easy task... and once they figured it was a sensor.. they had to figure out which one.

I'm going to continue to update this thread , after i get some more miles on the truck and post whether all is well....or if the problem starts again. Cross your fingers and let's hope that was the end of it.

.. and good luck with your repair!

take care everybody

I have an 05 z71 also and it has been doing the same thing. With mine I can hear a rubbing/scraping sound in the front left of the truck and the traction control screen pops up. If you find yourself in the OH S88t situation with oncoming traffic you can disable the stability control and it will turn of the traction control which will allow the truck to go. This happened to me last night making a left turn.
Anybody in the future with the power loss problem try disabling the stability control as a test, a one button test which can save alot of work.

In determining which sensor is bad I am looking at a few clues...
1 The rubbing sound in the front left at take off.
2 It tends to happen more when turning left.
3 When driving on a real bumpy road the stability banner flashed and the truck started pulling to the left combined with the rubbing sound.

Does this make sense to anybody else?

I was hoping to repair this on my own and was hoping some of you might of replaced the sensor and could give some advice on how to, how long, and how much.

thanks

yep.. sounds right!

Yep.. that's what I eventually found out.. that when I shut off the stability control.. the truck ran much better! crisper throttle response and never seemed to lose communication with the throttle body.

The dealer said the job was approx 500 dollars for parts and labout.

I see the hub assembly is available from many places on line.. depending on which one you need and what quality you want.. from about $98.. to approx $195.

Other articles I've read shows that it shouldn't be that difficult a job for the do it yourselfer who is mechanically inclinded.

If or when you do decide to do this repair.. please update the thread and let us know how it goes. I know I would appreciate it. I'm wondering if the sensor will eventually go bad on the other side at some point and then I'll attempt the repair here at home.

thanks for your info

Well Finally pinpointed the problem. The front left wheel bearing went out. Apparently the sensor is inside the bearing housing and when the bearing starts to act up the stability control sensor will go off. Had bearing and housing replaced and no more problem (with the stability control) 350.00 later.

Now the traction control keeps locking in. The Mechanic was able to plug in his computer and tell me which sensors were going out ( front left and rear right) with no charge. I love an honest machanic. Unfortunately I can't find anywhere to buy a replacement sensor for the rear right online. He said he thought the rear sensor is able to be replaced without replacing the hub. Anyone know where to find one besides the dealer ( the ones around Memphis are Crooked as hell and over priced)?

dealerships overpriced?? come on! hahaha

You got away with your front hub replacement at 350.00? The dealer I recently bought my tahoe from told me mine would be "approximately" 500.00 plus the appropriate taxes.. so you got away cheap.. oh.. by the way.. this is the same dealer.. who a few weeks later.. quotes me 1140.00 to replace my a/c compressor...I had it done today.. locally.. 750.00.. which I still think is a lot but apparently i'ts not a bad deal.
Yep.. dealerships.. hmmmm.

Just venting.. sorry I can't help you with a place to buy your new sensor.. and I'll cross my fingers that's not the repair I need next as well.

take care
