Hi,

I have owned a 2005 Tahoe since I got it with 100,000 miles back in 2010, It has about 275,000 miles now. I listened to a few people and my go pure power oil filter and running 15w/40 oil in my opinion has kept this thing alive and also I musts thank the previous owner for taking such good care of it. Today I bought a 2010 5.3L flex fuel Tahoe, and I know nothing about it (bought it for the wife) The owner was a senior man and took amazing care of this Tahoe, I was kinda blown away by its condition for a 15 year old Tahoe. I was worried about the idle when I bought it but it just never had the idle reset done to it, after a battery disconnect. This scan tool diagnostic stuff and reset/ modern car stuff is new to me. If anyone has any advice on what I should do or look out for in this gen 3 tahoe it would be much appreciated.
Thank you all in advance!!!!

What is the concern with the 2010 truck? How many miles on that one? Sounds like it was well taken care of, so that's a huge plus!

110,000 thousand miles. The idle was one issue, but i think the idle reset took care of it. Evap drive cycle is not completed but it passed smog. I just ordered a life time filter for it, The owner said the Tahoe only had mobile 1 5w/30 in it but I probably run 15w.40 in it. I know nothing about the flex fuel system. I guess more questions to come?

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

Pics of the truck, please.

I cannot personally assist you flex fuel details, but other members of this Forum much more knowledgeable than me in this area will chime in.

Put all of your vehicles on the severe service schedule, keep those fluids clean.

Now about that oil, are you using 15W-40 made for diesels? If so, you are damaging your engine more than if you ran what it was designed for.

Also not a fan of regular Mobil One. Oil analysis showed that metals in my oil dropped by over half when I switched off it to ACDelco and Quaker State Full Synthetic oil. Around 2010, Mobil One stopped being a Group IV based oil.

I swapped the MAS and had the same issue and cleaned the old sensor it was a bit dirty had the same issue. when i let of the gas it wants to rev to 800/900 ish while I'm coming to a stop. other days it idles around 500 solid. are there any other sensors i should clean or clean the the throttle body. any ideas. Pull the throttle body and clean the throttle plate real good. Disconnect the connector first, then remove it from the truck and don't pinch the gasket when you put it back on.

We do this to ours annually.

Check for intake vacuum leaks and or high LTFTs at idle.

I pulled the throttle body and cleaned it, It got worse. But I found a improperly installed intake duct to the throttle body and a clip sitting on the engine from the throttle position sensor. I just replaced the whole throttle body and correctly installed the intake duct. Problem solved, I elected not to just change the throttle position sensor because i didn't know how long this issue had been going on.
