2004 Denali Xl Towing?

Hey guys, i have a 2004 Yukon denali xl with the 6.0. I was towing my car on the trailer today and saw trans temps of around 217-220. I have a bullydog tuner that i could put into tow mode but we also have the button on the shifter. Previous owner has a towing shit kit installed that has a firmer first and second shift. The truck also has a trans cooler but i do not know if it is stock. Should i be worried about these temps? i was thinking of mabye changing the filter, and doing new fluid with royal purple. Mabye get a bigger trans cooler with a fan? any advice would be appreciated

If your denali has the original stock cooler it is tiny! One of the first things I did to my truck was get the biggest cooler they could fit behind the grill and it did wonders for my temps. I also have a fan installed on the cooler but it doesn't really help that much at all!

What is the largest cooler these trucks can fit?

yea it is the cooler size. After i built my trans i went to a 3/4' thick 18x10 cooler. summer heat i stay around 120. and towing i am around 165

yea you will have to use hose clamps and the barb end fittings on the cooler and then adapters to the factory hard lines. But this is no big deal and easy.

And to answer your question, my aftermarket cooler is 11" x 11" and it fits pretty good! Great investment if you plan on towing any amount of the time!

I do plan on towing. I'm getting a 24ft enclosed this winter hopefully. I just am unsure which cooler to get and what rating to get. Does the fan really help? Do you have it on a switch?

What size btu cooler should I look for? I saw B&m has some coolers but all different sizes and btu

Check out the thread I posted up, starting on post #21 it shows you what all I did. To answer your question, I did put the fan on a switch and I barely use the fan anymore since we sold our toyhauler! It doesn't help a ton with cooling off the fluid fast but I think it does help! At least get a big cooler, the biggest you can fit the better!

Pulled the trigger on the tru cool 40k cooler. Got it without the external thermal bypass. Has anyone run this on our trucks?

Good rule of thumb is anything over 100 degrees ambient is getting into the red zone......

Dexron 4 is the factory fill now.

I like to stay under 200 on fluid temp. 220 wouldnt scare me but I'd be watching it closely and looking to upgrade coolers as you are now.
