2002 Yukon XL 2500 Ignition Switch Question

The 2002 2500 Yukon XL ( SLT, 6.0 ) has an aftermarket replacement ignition switch. I want to go back to an OE GM switch. The current one does not have the ears on the switch. Does anyone know if there is a difference in the two designs? I prefer to get one with the ears ( the 01 1500 XL had this style, and I am used to it ).

by ears are you referring to the thumbwheel? The only difference is that’s an old school design. Most ignition cylinders do not have that any more ( hell most vehicles don’t have an ignition cylinder anymore period).

You could source another cylinder that has the thumbwheel, it still may be aftermarket.

just a heads up note that some aftermarket ignition switches cannot be re-keyed as well.
something to consider if you don't want to have to carry around 2 different keys or only have the option to re-key the other locks

I plan on getting a OE part - and having it keyed. Technically, I have 2 keys now. The Doors and rear hatch / gate are all one key ( I rely on the remote ) - the original key code - I had one made. the Spare tire access lock is missing, so that gets replaced.
