Some water in the pan after a TON of cleaning. Otherwise everything looks nice I think? This is the first ever trans pan I've dropped. From what I read the color is good, not burned smelling and not a ton of debris in the oil and nothing major on the magnet. 15k-30k miles on this trans from a HD truck with a 454.

Thoughts?

This is how I did it without a proper stand. I of course made a mess but I really really wanted to see everything that came out without disturbing the pan too much.

Tear down. Found the wiring harness main connector to be damaged, I'll replace the whole harness just in case. Everything else is looking good.

Random pics, not terribly interesting:

Big picture pic to help remember where things go.

To get the valve switch (I think its called) don't yank as o-rings might come off or get damaged. Twist and rotate down and it comes off.

Check balls out and inspected. Look OK. Dinner time...

Still going slow on the trans. I did get my hands on the dust cover. It appears the flexplate exploded. No joke. Edged are chipped off and the housing is a tad cracked. Nothing to stop it from working though. Anywho I was able to clean it up nicely.

I need to just document stock trans cooler lines that would fit a newer style 4l80e. Mines the older style, but can't hurt to know this.

More precisely wifey and I adopted this beast. We're slowly getting her to get along with my manx. Not truck related, but hey, I like animals. This is taking my time. ;)

Fine looking cat. I have a black cat that looks like that. Also, do you have the DVD for rebuilding the 4L60 transmissions? I bought it when I bought the manual. Very nice. Used it while rebuilding on in a SSS, never even touched the manual. Pm me if you don't have it.

Edit: never mind, you're build a 4l80...Reading fails me sometimes

You might find a torrent for the 4l60 DVDs ;)

No updates really here. I've been using the truck too much. Plus the garage has been very cold. Oh, and I'm amazed at how well auto-4x4 mode works. Also, rag on the G80 gov bomb diff, but when used right it works DAMNED well!!!

I did a little cleanup and fixed a couple things. No time for the trans yet.

- Detail & polish
- New wipers
- New mirror switch, the one I thought I fixed started breaking again.
- New lower lights/bulbs
- Finished blacking out the front
- ... and so forth

She looks good about 2 feet away ;)
