Hey y’all! I’m really hoping somebody can help me out with this. I have an 02 Escalade and on my dash there are 2 sensors. I was getting a code to replace the ambient light sensor. Well since I was going to have the dash out to replace the heater core I decided what better time to replace it. The problem I have is I pulled both sensors and I can’t remember if the ambient light sensor goes on the left drivers side or on the right passenger side. The sensors use the same plug so I have nothing to go on and I really hope somebody can help out. Thanks!

12450120 SENSOR, DAYTIME RUNNING LP AMB LGT (FITS A 8.3MM HOLE)

15740822 SENSOR, SUN LOAD TEMP (ACDelco #15-72446)

i think the only difference is the size of the sensor that screws into the dash panel. when i looked it up it shows both sensors in the same location. try and see which one fits in the mount hole.

Would the pigtail wire colors be different for the sensors? One could possibly ID the correct connection that way if the wiring diagram shows that they're different.

Or install one sensor and see what code the open connection gives. Kind of hit or miss, but a possibility.

Thanks again 915_Tahoe! I currently have the dash out and I have both sensors, the 120, and the 822. On my 2002 they are both identical as far as appearance and size. Even both connectors are identical. Both are located in the center of the dash on opposite sides of the center defrost vent.
I even checked voltage hoping maybe that would help determine which side is which but I got 4.8 on the left and 4.9v on the right so that was no help either. I thought this would be a little easier to figure out but I’m puzzled.

i know on my 2001 silverado i only have one which is the day time sensor and its located in the right side of the dash. so i would guess the temp sensor goes on that side.

you can also check by plugging in one sensor covering it and see if the lights turn on, but make sure you are in drive just apply the parking break.

Ok y’all thanks so much!!! It’s figured out. 915_Tahoe, your test worked!!! I plugged it in on the passenger side of the defrost vent put the parking brake on and the vehicle in drive and the lights went out! Sooooo, for anybody with the Bas&@$! Child 2002 Escalade like me the Sun Load Sensor is on the drivers side and the Ambient Light Sensor is on the passenger side. Thanks again!
