will "any" double din fit in the slot or only a few different ones?

din and double din refer to the "body height". The din is 2", the double din is 4". If they don't fit its because of the depth. There is a metal tab on the 99-02 that gets in the way, that you can easily cut out if need be. You usually do need to cut it out, but that's because of the plug placement in the back. The wiring harness or rca plug ins will hit it, and that will cause distortion.
