That was a different engine - but yes totally separated catastrophic failure and is a fine example of why you are never in the same room with the engine during a pull -)

Wow, put a big turbo on that thing and maybe it'll hit big numbers like my buddy Jon Huber's turbo 2.3l '79 mustang that runs low 9s @ 137mph and puts the front bumper 6' in the air every time it launches

That is funny - the owner of the engine did quite a bit of development with the Quad 4 back in the early 90's. He now has a turbo LNF Ecotec in one of his Fieros.

Very few engines I salute from my years of vehicle owning, Iron Duke Tech 4 is still in the top 5.

Probably a Cutlass Ciera or Calais. The Calais were smaller and had the Quad 4 back in '88.

Those 2.8s in like the Pontiac 6000 or something sounded awesome.

I had 4 Calais 2 with the 2.5 and 2 with the Quad 4. All though faster I hated the Quad 4. They had head gasket issues. My 86 2.5 sounded like a diesel from 86k to 260k.

My dad had a cutlas ciera and yep- sounded like a diesel as well at times... Low end grunt like one too.
