I have searched and haven't found anything. Is there a difference between the frames of an 01 1500 and a 01 2500? Or is it just the axles and suspension?

There's a big difference. The rails are several inches deeper (taller) among other things.

Not on the 2500 Suburban. The 2500 Suburban in more like the 1500HD Silverado, rail height is the same as the 1500. The suspension is different, which means it has mounts for leaf springs in the rear, and I believe there is a body mount or two that are different, but you can make a 1500 body fit a 2500 frame fairly easily.

I saw a heavy half yesterday, don't see them that often. It was my understanding that the 1500HD was a 1500 chassis with 2500 axles; the truck I saw yesterday had 8 lug wheels.

Duraburb did a video on the 2500 chassis and said the one used on the 2017s was essentially unchanged since 2000 and I know that they are certainly different than my 1500s frame, which can be viewed in the upfitter's manuals. I have not seen an Upfitter's Manual for the GMT800s though.
