Thank you for responding! I filed a claim to insurance to cover the cost if not some of the cost for rebuild or reman. Junkyard wont be an option unless they total it out but even then I plan to keep the truck for as long as possible so reman may be my best bet.
My 05 Tahoes engine just bit the dust due to me driving too fast into a flooded area. The engine has 185k but do to a possible odometer roll back from the previous owner; possibly 230k.
Im under the impression that a good amount of water was sucked in through the intake possibly cracking the...
No drifting/burnouts on the street maybe a donut or two in the snow or mud after a completing a solid trail. The truetrac is looking like a solid choice. The Detroit is a little more durable if i listened correctly but may not be the best choice for a daily driver. The only downside i see with...
Thanks for responding. My tahoe came stock with the g80 and with my style of driving ive destroyed two of them already (one on my current rig and another rig in the past). Ive seen great reviews on the Detroit locker but just not sure how well it is on the street and highway.
My 2005 Z71 Tahoe 4x4 currently has an open differential due to my stock g80 grenading leading to a junk yard swap.
I want to add a locker but am crossed between the eaton truetrac, Detriot locker and the Yukon Locker.
I need the locker for some occasional moderate off roading/snow wheeling...
True! I also considered that as well but wanted a second opinion due to mix recommendations online. With that being said i glad i came to the forums.
Job was completed an hour in a half ago starting at 10am this morning. Went very smoothly with the help of My Father in law; shifts better than...

I bought my tahoe two years ago with 137k on the odometer. My tahoe now has 176k and i am planning to do a transmission fluid & filter change after i change my oil and filter on the engine. I will also be doing a complete brake job adding new calipers/rotors and pads.
I have already purchased...
Thank you! I figured just getting the correct part would be the most straight approach to this situation. Id hate to mess them both up in the process of frankensteining the awd.
Thank you for responding!
My tahoe is an 05 with 4x4 push button 2hi/4hi/4lo. It came factory with 3.42 gearing(gu6 rpo). The front differential that i mistakenly purchased is from a Denali with awd with 3.73 gearing.
I originally purchased the diff with intent of a direct swap to match the...
Thanks for responding!
The axle tube housing is the only exterior difference that i can see.
I guess my next question would be if i could swap the tube housing/actuator on to the awd diff and if so would it still function the same way as stock with 2hi, 4hi and 4 low? Or will i need to modify...
I purchased a Denali transfer case with 3.73 gears but did not realize it doesnt have plug in for the selector switch. Is it possible to swap out some parts from my stock front diff to the denalis to make it work??
My stock rear end blew and i swapped it out last year with a junk yard part. My...
Gotcha thanks, the sure stop calipers im referring to are configured for 00-06 models but im running 20” havoc off road wheels, and was hoping i could try to get away with it, hence the question proposed.
Found a great deal on rotors and pads but im hesitant to jump on them and risk the diameter of the rotors being too large for the red Sure Stop calipers i have.
Any info will be helpful!
Thanks in advance
Thank you guys for responding! I was able to find an old photo of my rpo codes I took when I first got the truck. Gu6 is the code I found which translates to 3:42 gear ratio.
I do believe the diff that I swapped into my truck is 4:10 and have still yet to confirm that theory but I will be taking...
Thank you for the brief and informative response!!
Unfortunately my vehicle doesn’t have its factory glove compartment due to the car being stolen (thief scratched out the rpo codes and damaged the compartment) leading me to swap it out with another from lkq.
My best bet may be the latter...
Due to cost efficiency I swapped my rear end from an 06 Tahoe that was parted out.
After all was said done we test drove the vehicle only to realize the gearing ratio is different.
What steps can I take to match front end ratio the newly installed rear end (my guess is 4:10)
I have noticed an...
Very logical analysis! The caliper piston in the rear had completely shattered due to depleted brake pads. It release most if not all of the brake fluid. Upon realizing this I replaced the caliper and the presumed amount of brake fluid. All pads are new front and rear.
I did need to bleed each...
