Slightly off topic, but so many of these issues seem connected to the unnecessary separation between GM Trucks & GM SUVs.
Even stupid stuff like lights & mirrors require differences for no real reason ...
and they don’t recognize it can impact long-term resale value due to choice/preference/simplicity differences in the secondary market.
There was a time when there were NO differences between GM suvs & pickup trucks til you got behind the driver, or behind the 2nd row if the pickup was a crew cab.
The easy parts commonality, however, is seen by GM corporate as a flaw.
You've no clue how many Tahoes / Yukons are visually indistinguishable from swb Escalades from the outside ...
how many Suburbans / XLs are visually indistinguishable from Escalades ESV from the outside ...
some are barely distinguishable from the inside too. That's something GM would like to stop in the future,
so that the exorbitant premium and depreciation paid by Escalade lessees / buyers
Separate from that, but related, more and more people lease their vehicles and then surrender it when the lease is up. If that's the case (as 'if', it IS the case),
why should GM make it easy for the lessee to change a freaken light bulb? How else are they going to get any money out of you? Oil changes?
It's not a far leap from there to figure out that once the GMT800s and GMT900s finally die out,
that the GMTK2xx & GMTT1xx used car markets are gonna be messed up ...
