Not gonna lie ... definitely had to do Google educate myself on the systems. That’s interesting!
Wonder why big vehicle (garbage trucks/busses/etc) do not already use systems like this,
considering they already have the high pressure lines and hydraulic system installed in them?
Don't know the answer ... YET ...

Because the 6.2 (L86 & L87) make 19 more HP and only 5 lb ft less...

Because the L8T is a HD truck engine that GM will never put in anything less than a '2500'.
'1500' type vehicles will never get it from GM. GM will not get around CAFE.
Because the 6.2L (L86 & L87) make 19 more HP and only 5 lb ft less ...
Don't forget that the L86 / L87 / LT1 6.2L all require 91 octane. The 6.6L L8T was designed AND tuned by GM for 87.
(GM could very easily tune the L86 / L87 / LT1 6.2L to make less power on 87, they just don't 'feel like it'.)

I don't like hybrids at all. Not only do you have the maintenance of an internal combustion engine but you also have a $12,000 battery that will need replacing. Give me all gas, or all electric.
But there are two different methods to use hybrid power:
1) Plug-in hybrid engine provides small charge to large battery for electric motors to run off battery pack. Primary power is from plug-in batteries. Fuel-based motor & regenerative braking serve as a range extenders.
2) Independent hybrid engine provides large power capacity directly to run motors. Regular battery used just for starting and normal engine-off power. No large batteries requiring large replacement costs. Most complicated element would be adaptive gearing for the motor (generator) to regulate output. Towing capacity would simply be an issue of maximum torque capacity (and suspension/frame/braking limits).
Hybrid vehicles shouldn’t need to have massive battery capacity if the motor is only running a generator for power because the fuel system is supplying the range, not the electrical system.

Slightly off topic but so many of these issues seem connected to the unnecessary separation between GM Trucks & GM SUVs. Even stupid stuff like lights & mirrors require differences for no real reason … and they don’t recognize it can impact long-term resale value due to choice/preference/simplicity differences in the secondary market.

So why not make ALL Suburbans 2500s (or 3500s) with the option for a 6.6L and make Tahoes the single full-size 1500 version?
Just because it’s a 2500 (or 3500) doesn’t mean it has to “ride like a truck” anymore.

Soccer mom doesn’t want a “2500 label”? Debadge it or buy a smaller truck!

There was a time when there were NO differences between GM suvs & pickup trucks til you got behind the driver, or behind the 2nd row if the pickup was a crew cab.
The easy parts commonality, however, is seen by GM corporate as a flaw.
You've no clue how many Tahoes / Yukons are visually indistinguishable from swb Escalades from the outside ...
how many Suburbans / XLs are visually indistinguishable from Escalades ESV from the outside ...
some are barely distinguishable from the inside too. That's something GM would like to stop in the future,
so that the exorbitant premium and depreciation paid by Escalade lessees / buyers

Separate from that, but related, more and more people lease their vehicles and then surrender it when the lease is up. If that's the case (as 'if', it IS the case),
why should GM make it easy for the lessee to change a freaken light bulb? How else are they going to get any money out of you? Oil changes?

It's not a far leap from there to figure out that once the GMT800s and GMT900s finally die out,
that the GMTK2xx & GMTT1xx used car markets are gonna be messed up ...
