I did my first oil change today. I picked up a few filters at my local dealership. They gave me pf63a for my 6.2l Tahoe. I removed a pf63 which is what did ask for at the dealer. It looks to be about 1/2 inch shorter than the pf63.

Anyone else using a pf63a? It appears to be a silver quality filter.

I switched away from the standard filters. I'm now using PPE high efficiency filters. They have roughly twice the filtering media inside and filter down to 10 microns. Most filters are about 30 microns. Not that I'm trying to extend my oil and filter changes, but I figure the more contaminants I can keep out of the oil, the better.

Have you noticed a change in your oil pressure? I haven't thought much about the filter brand. I'm fine with OEM for now. Something I may consider at my next oil change.

I had my first oil change at 1000 miles; I just let the dealer do the one and they used whatever they use. I’ll be doing my own after this.

I know you have to use dexos approved oil to keep the warranty; I haven’t read into the oil filter yet. I planned to use the recommended AC delco filter for warranty purposes.

Just a thought if you guys are using aftermarket filters if GM wants to give you a hard time down the road!

I believe the "a" is just an updated filter. I use the larger heavy duty filter UPF63R from Rock Auto on all my 6.2 and 5.3's.

On a new vehicle, I change the oil at 500 miles, then at 2500 miles, and then 3000 from then on. I use 5W-30 pure synthetic.

The pf63a is a bit shorter. A filter wrench is now required for the install and removal. I was able to grip the pf63 when I removed it. Getting a 3/4 rotation of the pf63a wasn't going to happen by hand.

What year is your vehicle that you are changing oil on.
