Oil sensor variance?

Oil life is how much more you have until changing the oil. It's based on some algorithm that takes into account driving style (idling, city or highway driving), engine load, temperature and who knows what else?

The low oil is simply a switch that the oil level I'm the sump is low. It's like a float switch.

The two things are not really related. I mean, unless your "change oil" message comes on AND your oil pan is also low, then you'll get that message you showed that says "add oil."
Who give a shit about "Oil Life" if it truly doesn't mean much, give me a "x% oil remaining" notification/reading.

add 1 1/2 and see what brings the level up to
how many miles has it been since the past oil change?
To be honest not sure...but will now keep a log book in the glove box moving forward after next oil change. Per the dealership sticker, around 1,500...but again, these are speculated numbers under "normal" GMC spec'd driving condition. So maybe the shown MPG might shed some light on the variance. :emotions33: #GimmeWhippleOrM5

Give me a "x% oil remaining" notification / reading.
Think you have to go looking for this in the menus, although I think your vehicle may be new enough that you'll get an email / text / whatever when the Oil Life monitor approaches 0%.

FYI, most NYC cabdrivers / livery drivers / chauffeurs apply the following 'skew' to the Oil Life Monitor:
Mostly all highway miles (NOT NYC), change oil & filter @ 17%, but NEVER over 5000 miles.
More highway than local miles, change oil & filter @ 20%, but NEVER over 4000 miles.
More local than highway miles, change oil & filter @ 25%, but NEVER over 3500 miles.
Mostly all local miles (NYC, 5 boros, stop'n'go, LOTS of idling, but also lots of restarts), change oil & filter @ 33%.
If they intend to keep that car after the lease is up, oil changes may happen as often as every 2500 miles /
every 5-6 weeks, depending on the nature and number of miles accrued.

The Oil Life Monitor subtracts miles from 'an account'. When it runs out of miles, time for another oil change.
HOWEVER, not all miles are created / counted equally.

There's an ideal engine coolant temp range, an ideal engine RpM range, an ideal engine load range -
although the proxy for that last one is time spent with the TCC locked in an overdriven gear.
Those miles are 'better'. Long highway / cross-country trips considerably extend the Oil Life Monitor's mileage.

The more miles accrued while the engine is cold, at higher RpM, in 1st 2nd or 3rd gear with the TCC UNlocked,
the more often the Oil Life Monitor will suggest changing the oil, as those miles are 'worse'.

Stopped and added one in the parking lot, will check levels in the AM. Yeah, I do alot of stop/go driving to/from work mostly. And with in Sport Mode and L9, Corsa Exhaust...I enjoy my drive as much as I can...so I can only assume that is why my oil level is how it is vs the oil life. Even my wife made that comment when I told her about this tonight. Told her the NEW M5 has 775HP when it is released later this year...YES, I got "that look" from her so I quickly changed subjects bahaha.
