Weird. This am went to open the gate and it unlatched and that’s it. I can manually open it about 6 inches and then it stops. Can’t even open it with force. Well, I could probably force it open but something would snap.

Really bizarre. Any ideas?

And of course I just went over 3 years, 36k miles...sigh.

Liftgate actuator. Do a Google search. If you have a 2015 it looks like a common problem.

Doesn’t that just lock/unlock? Mine locks and unlocks (pops open and pulls closed) but won’t open up.

After a 3 hour trip today the gate opens again. Ugh.

No, if you do a Google search it will show the 2015s with this problem and the GM bulletin that describes how to do the repair describes problems with it opening and closing. It looks like the liftgate shock but they list it as the actuator.

Update on this. Finally stopped altogether. But can at least now be manually opened and closed. Dealer needs to replace piston due to failure.

39k miles, not covered under warranty. Cost should be around $300
