in case anyone stumbles upon this post in a future search, looks like the root cause was the wheel hub/bearing.
i bought ac delco part# fw345 off of rock auto (don't forget to grab their discount code from the supporting vendors section since it's $180).
i changed it over my lunch break -...
so... when the steering wheel is turned all the way to the right, i get a very loud clicking noise from the front left wheel, and it only happens under these conditions.
i think it might be the bearing, but before i drop $180 on a hub, i was wondering if anyone has encountered this before and...
so my alternator has begun to make noise from the unit itself. figure i should go ahead and swap it out before something bad happens.
i have the 160 amp RPO KW1 unit, and the acdelco replacement is a couple hundred dollars..... :(
anyone try a duralast unit? particularly DL1912-6-11? or am...
well that didn't take long. the crack over the instrument cluster broke again even though it was reinforced. i know what's going on my xmas list.... :(
if you're just getting the main dash part, i know for me it would have been $355.51 (pn 23224747) from gmpartsdirect.com. i will also need the upper dash, which is another $213.17 (pn 23224733). the price seems to fluctuate quite a bit from time to time on the website, but haven't seen them...
here are some after pics:
bottom line is that it still looks like crap, but it doesn't rattle/flap anymore, and it didn't cost $500.
when i feel like spending the money i will definitely buy a new replacement, but until then i'm glad to have fewer rattles when the sub hits. i looked...
from a procedural standpoint, it's not too difficult. here's how i would do it if i were in your shoes. follow at your own risk!
- disconnect the negative terminal from your battery and wait a while in case there are capacitors that need to discharge.
- if you are sitting in the driver's seat...
forgot to mention, but underneath the massive split under the top left portion of where the passenger airbag sits, i did reinforce the area. i cut 0.5" x 4" strips out of some 3" SCH40 PVC pipe i had laying around. wasn't sure what best to use for reinforcement above the instrument cluster, so...
no worries. let us know if there's a good way to get the stupid thing in and out easily - or if i'm just an idiot and didn't move the steering wheel correctly or something. :P
you never know. as you can see mine was completely severed under the smaller forward dash piece. :(
the entire center part of my dash had turned into it's own floppy piece that continually flapped going down the road for months, so i decided to try and repair it this weekend.
i don't feel like spending ~$500 to get the two dash pieces, so i opted to try and epoxy it all back together.
i used...
thanks for the replies! and sorry for my delayed response - just had our third baby and went off the grid for a while.
i'm thinking i might go with a single sub and higher powered amp for now, especially since that would be a cheaper route. i was looking at the fi 12's (the ssd12 in...
...but maybe with a twist...
so i have(had?) 2 jl 12w3v2 subs connected to a fosgate 360a2 amp for about 15 years now, and the subs finally blew their coils.
the subs were in a ported box which replaced one of my third row seats, and the subs have 6 ohm coils (i know, long story...) so there...
i followed the write-up in this thread successfully: http://chevroletforum.com/forum/tahoe-suburban-25/2007-tahoe-add-amp-21865/
this was just to add an amp for subs though.
